Bad!

Pros

Ok place. Very average. Below par talent. Great place if you want to coast.

Cons

My team was awful. Not all teams are bad. Lots of politics in NYC office. Most good people generally leave. Keep your head down. Ideas are not welcome. Management has old fashioned hierarchical mentality.

Former colleague, We are disappointed to hear about your experience while working with us. We take a great deal of pride in our culture and values and we are always looking for ways to make the experience for our employees the best that it can be. We will continue to strive to identify additional ways in which we can further enhance our culture. Thank you for all that you did during your time at Mercer.

Soul sucking billable hours

Pros

Great people work there (hopefully that will last). I would have given 1 star otherwise.

Cons

Leadership changed in the past few years and became extremely focused on billable hours. You must exceed them to be average and the hours expected are already over the roof. All the effort and time put in and the raving reviews received from multiple people in multiple levels did not matter, all that mattered at the end was profit, revenue, hours. The company went down hill 2 years ago and it keeps going. 80% of the teams I was working with quit.

Pros

Paid to study for insurance exams, company paid for insurance license, nice office environment, some good managers, nice co-workers, cafeteria on-site

Cons

Paid training for licensing exams consists of self-study and not much instruction. Training for job duties is too light and is mostly on the job training to the detriment of the clients you are supposed to assist. A lot of the "experts" supposed to help you seemed to be thrown in their role and are winging it. Many managers lack leadership and communication skills and seem to be thrown in their jobs. Much of your time you spend being the bad guy, not resolving clients' issues but skirting around them, like denying coverage due to technicalities. Departments seem to be pieced together with no organization. "Experts" contradict each other all of the time. Political conflicts between Norwood and Urbandale offices that prevent you from getting job done.
