Working for Mercury

Pros

If you prefer to be micromanaged, under paid and unappreciated this is the company for you.

Cons

Employees work in a highly stressful environment entirely due to management. Goals and expectations are unachievable. Bonus and pay increases are minimal if any and purely subject to the claim directors whims.

OMG. Overwhelming

Pros

I work with mostly nice people in my department.

Cons

Ridiculous amount of work. Managers are so out of touch with what we need and keep pushing expectations from when we were staffed properly. HR dreams up stupid games and engagement things when we can’t even offer customers a smooth claim experience because we’re always a week behind on everything. Who has time to read all the bs they keep pushing out. IT messes with our systems daily so we’re always dropping network connectivity and cannot easily complete our work. Everyone is hyper sensitive because of our workload and are constantly snapping at each other.

Pros

Nice people, laid-back vibe (jeans, tattoos, piercings, colored hair OK), decent benefits. Regular work hours with no mandatory over time.

Cons

Excessive work load for claims adjusters. Unrealistic expectations for handling the large number of claims within specific timelines. The insane flow of claims mixed with the complexity of some made it impossible to keep up on a daily basis. Miss a day or two for training, vacation, or sick time and there is no way to catch up. Customer surveys were a big focus. Anything other than a top score of 10 was unacceptable. Difficult to prevent negative survey scores with the minimal amount of time allowed to work each claim. Adjusters held responsible for poor performance of any other department that came in contact with an insured. Anyone in disagreement with a claim decision is likely to submit a low scoring survey.
