Pros

Michael's is a good place to start with in retail if you are a creative/artistic person. Personally, I love my surroundings and it's enjoyable to assist customers who share the same passion as I. What is really great is the 30% Employee discount plus the tasty pot lucks we have during Thanksgiving and Christmas time. At the Michael's store I work at it means a lot to know I'm apart of a family-like team.

Cons

As a part time Sales Associate who is with the company for over 2 years, I wish they'd give longer hours. I would much rather have 8 hour shifts than the usual 4hr to 4.5hr a day. In addition, there are no health benefits for part time workers. Only full timers (which are the managers) receive them. Furthermore, Michaels does not offer full time positions for sales associates or cashiers.

Friendly coworkers, an overall easy job, sometimes would get food, schedules are sent out early, management flexible

Cons

Bad customers; most people just leave stuff everywhere, store was constantly messy, a lot people abused or vandalize the washroom, little to no hours, stupid email count

- hourly raise - decent discount - good people - constant inspiration for new projects - fits my personal interests to genuinely help customers with their projects

Cons

- MUST work EVERY weekend - MUST work EVERY evening - social/family life is non-existent - a guilt trip every time I ask for time off for family/social event *I worked every evening/wknd this summer and missed many family events, to which I was not impressed; I was told upon getting the promotion 'if you need time off, just ask', but met with difficulty when exercising this - no consideration for life outside of work when it comes to family
