      Frustration and Lack of Resources Hinder A Possible Calling

      Pros

      Being Direct Care you tend to clients with a wide spectrum of physical and intellectual disabilities. This type of work is really fulfilling for the right type of person. Helping them complete tasks and taking them out for community outings is incredibly rewarding.

      Cons

      Turnover rate was abysmal. Whole shifts walk out due to heavy demands from management and not enough staff being there already for each shift. Pay and health insurance options are nowhere near sustainable. Lack of funding makes it hard to make the clients experience out in the community any kind of meaningful.

      Pros

      Meaningful work that will make you feel accomplished and like you make a difference can get attached to individuals very easily

      Cons

      Despite the recent pay increase they're still on the low end of the scale compared to other companies that do the same work. After transitioning from dsp to manager your life completely belongs to your job. You are unable to make plans of any kind because youn are always on call to cover shifts for call off or individual's er visits. The manager's immediate supervisor ,called a PC does not do much to help a manager if they are needed for questions or help covering a shift becsuse thel PC is a salaried position and theybdo not get paid for the extra work. Leaving the manager to simetimes to work to 20 or a day and almost never almost never answers their phone. Workplace gossip is over the top especially at the office no one is safe from rumors.
