Pros

The people. The employees themselves are fantastic. They are really committed to the cause and have help make the company what it is. There is a crop of new leaders who have come in with strong backgrounds and ability to impact some real change

Cons

If you have ever looked at companies like this, culture and the people seem to be the thing they always build their platform on. However, if you peel back the layers of the lovely pictures and branding images you will see a high degree of nepotism, toxicity, and archaic ways of thinking. Don't be fooled by the Mimecast Way and the passion you feel, this level of passion leads to silo'd and compartmentalized thinking. It leads to a fear and a lack of change. This is definitely not a progressive company. In fact, it is finance led, and is being led in the wrong direction. They have a "no-ego" policy but in reality, if you've been there more than 4 years you can be what ever you want to be, to whomever you want to be it to, without consequence. The adolescence of the leadership, the horrid, toxic, and disrespectful characteristics of the finance leadership make this place a nightmare to work at. Peoples success are hinged on others failures. Teams are not allowed to grow, innovative approaches are not allowed to blossom, and diversity in people and thought are only talked about because they have to be. Sure, you get some free food, sure they will get you boozed till you can't drink any more, but what you will get from it is that your skill set and ability will be dumbed down. You will be bucketed into your org, you won't be able to be strategic, and the second you call out a "made" Mimecasters you are blacklisted. Its like its a social experiment for the founders and tenured Mimecasters, and the divide between them and the newer employees is growing exponentially . HR is administrative and have zero ability to impact anything. The leadership team are emotional and don't make decisions based upon fact, but upon their emotional connection to things They are not firm in their decisions and it makes it impossible to impact change. Overall, the people are what made this company great, and the people will be what destroys it.

Pros

There are no pros, which is very sad to say about a SAAS tech company

Cons

Where to begin? Management needs to get their heads out of the clouds. The foundation of the company is burning, yet they still keep adding to the mess with new strategies, new initiatives. Its changing every day, and they shove it in the faces of the employees to deal with. I was terribly burnt out and more kept coming. it wasn't just for me... the whole company seems to be feeling this energy. (overworked, underpaid, and just fed-up) Don't get me started on HR and their "new" and "exciting" performance management. They've made the whole process unbearable and even if you are high performing, and hit all the metrics. forget about getting a raise. what a joke! Do yourself a favor.. if you respect yourself. withdraw your application to Mimecast. it's not worth your risking your mental health.

As an organization, we are continuously looking for new ways to drive fairness and transparency for our Mimecasters. Our new performance management system takes into account both goals and expected behaviors, aligned with our values, to ensure each employee is able to have robust conversations with their managers. We believe this will allow us to scale our culture with our growth and reward strong performance.

A Company in Decay

Pros

sadly, the pros have dried up over the years. formerly, there used to be a great culture of learning, innovation, and respect for the work. some may still see this but it largely dependent on if you manager is burned out or not.

Cons

horrible C-level hiring over the years leading to fractured strategy and lack of execution. "do more with less" being the only corporate objective that carried over year over year. C-levels bring in friends from former companies who walk over the folks who helped grow the company from start-up. Spend 6 months on a project only for a senior leader from another department to squash it with no feedback or replacement strategy. Basic challenges grow worse over time due to red-tape and an unwillingness to spend or shift resources. Pay is low and performance reviews are a joke, used simply to either see you out of the business or say you "met expectations" and therefore receive a raise lower than inflation. Managers perform the reviews and C-levels have carte blanche to change them as they see fit (often times without ever knowing the employee the review was about).
