Pros

Most of my colleagues are fantastic people and there are a few amazing members of leadership. Medical and Dental benefits are fair enough if you're single with no kids or serious health issues. The downtown location is surrounded by public transportation. Fairly hard to get fired regardless of performance issues.

Cons

While there are a few fantastic members of the leadership team, interaction with most levels of the management and leadership team leaves you wondering how they got their jobs. About 80% are either verbally abusive to staff or prefer to cover their own backsides instead of standing up for what is right, fair, or ethical. Some of the issues in management has a lot to do with extremely outdated business practices as well as poor leadership development. There is very little understanding of what the company goals actually are and how we can help the company meet these goals. As long as I have been with the company, they seem very reactionary to what's happening to the business and are always playing catch up. Unreasonable deadlines, overworking staff due to everything being implemented at the last possible minute. There is not a lot communication and collaboration throughout the company as a whole. Departments tend to keep a tight lid on information and are seemingly unwilling to share details that will directly impact other departments. Information does move up or down the chain. The company has extremely outdated technology and does not truly appear to be interested in making processes and procedures more efficient. That is for the limited process and procedures in place. Can't image that we aren't losing even more money. Important news regarding the companies standing is found out through sources outside the company and often confirmed by the company at a much later time. Scraping the bottom of the barrel of industry compensation, which makes it hard to attract the right kind of talent. They don’t believe in matching people to the right position based on strengths or even the right aspects of a job. I’ve heard a manager tell supervisors that report to her that people are lucky they even have a job when concerns regarding overtime or workload expectations are presented. These are very tame examples of what I’ve witnessed firsthand. The few great people in leadership have a difficult battle when they do not conform to the existing leadership culture of the company.

Pros

Awesome healthy culture, wonderful team, work from home opportunities, no micromanaging, lots of little perks like a company locker room for those who exercise on the downtown waterfront, YMCA daycare in the lobby. Annual salary increases, Christmas party, great paid time off, etc.

Cons

Rapid expansion has left the departments lacking concrete policies, lots of employee turnover leaves an unstable feeling. Compared to comparable employers in the industry, Moda pays lower.

Pros

All the the workers bees at this company are genuinely good folks. Working hard trying to get what is being asked of them done. The pay and benefits are competitive, but probably not for much longer. Flexible schedules (depending on your manager).

Cons

There is no work/life balance. The balance is, you will work and do nothing else. Financial troubles, future looks very questionable. Management is completely screwed up. Ridiculous deadlines are given for projects with absolutely no input from IT. Business units will sit on projects for months and then out of the blue give developers a week to build it. Bug ridden code is released all the time because it is not properly tested and then must be fixed while new project work is constantly thrown in. Moda management regards its IT people as expendable. Classic "push them until they break or quit mentality". No project management tools are provided, along no modern development or work stack tools, Everything is done by hand with wordpad and spreadsheets. If you enjoyed developing software in the 80's and 90's you will be fine with it. Do not think outside the box, do not try to solve problems. Just get it out the door as fast as you can and fix it while dealing with the other 10 things you are working on.
