Getting out while the getting's good

Pros

It technically qualifies as employment. Plus, so far my pay checks haven't bounced but that's probably only a matter of time since the executive team needs to continue getting drunk in the owner's box at Blazers home games for $4 million a year.

Cons

The company picks the States it goes into business in based on where The CEO's friends and family want to work. The company lost a boatload going into Alaska just so the CEO's kid could work close to where he likes to go fishing. It will be interesting to see if all of the executive's kids keep their jobs during the layoff. They also once wasted a lot of money putting together a horribly sexist comic book they sent to the employees. Most companies don't waste their marketing budget on a comic book that they only distribute internally. Also, it was a comic book about insurance which is exactly as terrible an idea as it sounds. They kept on the CMO though, as he's one of the CEO's friends. So, yeah, lots of nepotism and "yes men". Their reliance on the ACA risk corridor was just the latest in a long line of poorly researched business decisions based on the executives agreeing with whatever the CEO says.

Pros

The upper level management is accessible. Great benefits and competitive pay. They really care about your performance with monthly reviews and yearly reviews with raises. Great parking benefits, 50% bus pass, routine raffles and awesome Christmas parties.

Cons

The attendance policy is ridiculous and unrealistic. You get 7 points per rolling year and if you get more than 7 points, you're out. Just to think, if you're a really hard worker, 7 points (or any points for that matter) goes against you and your yearly review. You get a point for missing a day of work due to sickness. You get a 1/2 point if you're more than 10 minutes late to work, irregardless if traffic is bad due to an accident or bad weather. Also, 10-12 days of PTO is not enough when that 10-12 days accounts for your sick time as well. If you're so focused on employee wellness, then shouldn't their be a separate sick time from the vacation time?
