Pros

New clinics are clean and airy

Cons

Management is horrible, leadership caters to rude clients and allows them to constantly demean staff. Poor communication, not enough appointments to cover the number of clients they take on so patient care suffers. Quality of medicine is typical corporate. They only care about getting good reviews, not about providing quality care or a good work space for staff.

Leadership Is Clueless, Future Is Nonexistent

Pros

There are talented, compassionate people in the clinics doing their best to provide great care. Unfortunately, they’re operating in a company that is falling apart behind the scenes.

Cons

The company is in a financial crisis - burning cash, slashing budgets, and looking to quietly shutting down clinics. Leadership won’t admit it publicly, but internally it’s obvious: voluntary exit programs, forced layoffs, and reorgs are being handled with zero transparency or compassion. What’s most alarming is that clinic teams haven’t been told anything. They’re still operating as if nothing’s wrong because leadership hasn’t communicated the severity of the situation. No heads-up about closures. No plan for what happens when support is pulled. No acknowledgment that coworkers will quietly disappearing due to layoffs. Leadership knows if clinic teams understood the real financial position, retention would collapse. So they delay, distract, and say nothing while making decisions that will directly hurt those same teams in the next few months. Leadership is unqualified and often promoted based on loyalty, not merit. If you’re not part of the "inner circle", your work is invisible. HR protects leadership, not employees. The “four commitments” are just branding. Behind the scenes, profit drives every decision, even when it directly harms care quality or employee well-being.

Pros

The learning and development team is lovely. After they leave, however, good luck.

Cons

An astonishing blend of what’s wrong with both corporations and veterinary medicine. It’s baffling that a company that markets concern for staff mental health has so effectively managed to take each issue brought forward and made it worse. Modern promotes a whole lot of rhetoric surrounding creating a gold standard of medicine and prioritizing employees. It’s quite obvious what their actual driving factor is: money. Usually at the expense of the hard-working staff. They claim to desire a healthy work-life balance and you shouldn't have slack on your personal phone! But god forbid you ignore their emails on your days off-- no wait, give it a shot. See how it goes. If you do decide to join this corporation, I encourage you to ask your fellow support staff what they’ve witnessed when other employees provide honest feedback to management. Really— take the time to find out how it’s received and what happens next. Truly, warmest wishes to anyone joining the team. With utter sincerity, I hope they get their acts together, but I’m far from optimistic. The level of hostility I experienced and witnessed during my time there continues to gnaw at me, even months after resigning.
