Pros

-Truly amazing clinic team — compassionate, smart, and hard-working people. -Impressive use of technology and AI to streamline workflows. -CEO and Head Veterinarian have strong, human-centered intentions and speak passionately about building a better veterinary culture.

Cons

-The day-to-day reality doesn’t reflect the leadership’s vision. Teams are overworked and stretched thin. -The business model (unlimited free exams and a 10% discount on services/products) creates pressure to upsell, which can compromise medical integrity and trust of members. -Frequent discounting of services devalues veterinary work and contributes to burnout. -Competitions and incentives designed to drive production create a sales-like environment that doesn't align with patient-centered care. -Expansion is being aggressively driven, often on the backs of clinic teams with minimal additional support. -Despite talk of work-life balance and sustainability, the reality rarely matches the rhetoric. -Area management lacks leadership skills and failed to provide the mentorship and support I was seeking when joining Modern Animal. -The company promotes a culture of alignment, but in practice, dissenting or critical feedback is discouraged if it doesn’t match the preferred narrative. -There’s a lot of lip service to Modern Animal’s “four commitments,” but profit clearly takes precedence. -There’s a strong push to maintain the perception that “everything is great,” but it became clear that many others across the organization were struggling just as much as I was. -The shift from salary to a production-based pay model undermines the company’s original mission of collaboration and balanced workload, and will limit future raises, as the current business model makes it difficult for veterinarians to consistently and ethically meet production goals.

Thank you for taking the time to share such detailed feedback. We’re grateful to hear that your clinic team had a meaningful and positive impact on your experience. The compassion, intelligence, and dedication of our clinic teams are truly the heart of Modern Animal, and we’re proud of the cultures each team has built together. We also appreciate your recognition of our technology and mission. At the same time, we are saddened to hear that your day-to-day experience didn’t fully reflect the vision we strive to uphold. The concerns you’ve raised—including workload, pricing, and sustainable growth—are areas we continue to evaluate and evolve. Feedback like yours plays an important role in helping us bridge that gap between intention and execution. Thank you again for your contributions during your time with Modern Animal.

Pros

- Others who work on the support team are generally phenomenal. - There is a "we are in this together" attitude that makes the cons a tad more manageable. - The company's mission/vision is clear, and it feels impactful to work on such meaningful work.

Cons

- highly toxic office environment (this was mentioned by another reviewer, can confirm its true) filled with gaslighting, manipulation, and string pulling from behind the scenes - volatile leadership team that acts on emotions more often than facts - extreme lack of trust from senior leadership team, trickling down to employees - lack of transparency around company policies like PTO, pay, benefits for remote/hyrbid employees - support team members are often doing the work of 2-3 other roles that org did not want to back fill - Junior Senior Leadership Team/ Junior VPs who are making decisions that ultimately cause a lot of mismanagement, double work, ever-changing fires. - high bias in promotion process. those who promoted into higher level roles are typically favorited by senior-leaders, and are promoted more quickly with better compensation and less push back. Those who are not, are often denied a justified promotion/scope and still obtain additional job duties when someone quits. - little work-life balance, constant fires that are created/poked at by senior leaders the office side of the business was a web it took me months to untangle from, with the damage that was done to my mental health. I hope that those who work in the vet practices are not experiencing the same, that would break my heart.

Thank you for taking the time to provide this detailed feedback. While we're encouraged by your sentiment about the camaraderie within the Support Team and how the company’s mission added meaning to your work, we do not take your critical feedback lightly. As we grow we recognize that the fast-paced environment of the Support Team can be challenging, and at times may require team members to wear multiple hats. We will continue to anchor to our value of Striving for Simplicity and are committed to improving transparency and efficiencies with our policies. Thank you again for sharing your honest feedback and for your contributions to the team during your time with us.

Corporate Chaos, Wonderful Clinics, Doctors, and Clinic Staff

Pros

-The clinics are amazing, the doctors, staff, clinic managers, etc are all doing their best to care of patients and fulfill the mission -pretty good benefits for corporate - incredible coworkers on corporate side, who typically really want to help and be in this together

Cons

Corporate side of business - culture is not the same as what they say it is. It is rooted in fear of failure, blame, gaslighting, manipulation, and in equipped leadership team as well as leaders promoted into manager, director, and even VP roles that aren't experienced enough or prepared to lead or make they key decisions needed. This has resulted in multiple "layoffs " in a few short years (some disguised as a voluntary opportunity to lay yourself off, or even very intentional and blatant performance management designed to pressure those they want out to quit.) The voluntary layoffs were coupled with pressure to lay yourself off sighting that if not enough people lay themselves off, then they would lay you off and it would come with less severance, time, etc. - extremely reactive leaders, who continuously change directions and leave others out of key information or decisions, and manage chaotically causing a lot of stress, fear, and re-work. -organization scaled too quickly, so now it has gone back to very primitive structure vs. the robust structure and scale we moved to at one point (elimination of departments, roles, closure of clinics I don't regret my time there because I learned a lot and know what to look out for in a future employer. Though I say that, I truly hope they can turn it around and succeed!
