This is the most toxic environment I have ever worked in. When you hear the words ‘toxic positivity’, Modern Animal screams and lives it. They care so much about no negative conversations on the treatment floor that they have fired/let go of more employees in a year than I have ever seen in my 10 years in the veterinary industry. I agree with the sentiment that Modern is Banfield 2.0. They really don’t give doctors that much freedom to make their own treatment plans and decisions. Profitability and numbers are constantly being brought up. They care more about meeting numbers set up by the team of “business operations”, than truly about the quality of medicine they are providing for their patients. Technicians literally have had conversations from leadership about how to sell more items during their appointments. The most upsetting part is the facade that they hide under. They are quite literally doing the opposite of ‘changing the veterinary industry’ as they advertise. They care more about numbers, expansion, their outward appearance, than their actual employees. Their motto “Build for Humans” is the most upsetting in my opinion. I have seen everything BUT building for their actual humans that work for this company. They recognize that there is burn out in the team - multiple callouts, high turnover rate, low morale. But instead of really addressing the issue and listening to their team, they fire everybody, guilt trip those who are calling out, put more work on those who actually show up, and show very little appreciation to those who actually do show up. They say they care about what the actual team members have to say, but they really don’t. Engagement surveys are sent, but nothing is done about them. Any time you bring up an issue at work, it somehow get thrown back at you that you are the problem and no change is needed. If there’s one thing I can advise any VA, VN, or DVM is that you should REALLY consider everything being presented to you before taking on this job. Have everything in writing. There are a lot of broken promises that will be made to get you to sign on, but it is just down hill from there. You get no unpaid time off. You barely accrue any PTO. And despite them encouraging you to not do OT, the lack of leadership leads the team to constantly stay late in overtime.
