Pros

A foot in the door in politics in DC The office itself is quite nice The people that work here are, for the most part, really amazing people who care about what they're doing.

Cons

When someone starts at Mothership, they quickly realize that they've had their last free weekend. Over the last year, the company has exploded in profits, and almost none of this has found its way past the three founders. People regularly find themselves working 60+ hour weeks for very little pay. If you should choose to say something is wrong at this company, you should expect to be pulled into a private meeting by one of senior management. One time, someone mentioned how it was strange that we had absolutely no chance of a raise. They got brought into a meeting with a partner where they were sternly told to shape up and be grateful for what they have, despite this person being much more qualified than many other people at their same pay scale. Another time, they threatened to fire four people because they made some jokes about how the office was out of Red Bull. There is very little incentive to stay with this company for over a year, and most people don't. The people that do are often so overworked that even though they desperately want to leave, they cannot find a spare second to apply or actually interview elsewhere. The partners base their business around getting people fresh out of college who are eager to prove themselves and don't realize that working conditions are better pretty much anywhere else. I have told friends not to work here.

Pros

They will lie to your face for the duration so you feel safe in your job Hire you with no experience and will train you Most of the employees are quite kind.

Cons

They will lay you off suddenly, and say you are the first person they will reach out to if they ever hire again. Then they will post a job posting acknowledging 0% of the people they laid off just months before. They will exploit postgrads who haven't had a job yet and who care about progressive policies. Seriously, if you are young, don't be taken advantage of by this heinous organization. Don't apply. Do not do it. There are other jobs. I promise it will workout. They are losing all of their clients because they are not a good firm, seriously avoid!

Pros

Benefits were good, young coworkers, fun work environment most of the time

Cons

Mothership is full of talented people all the way up to management. Almost all of the staff is just people passionate about bringing about positive change. The partners are the problem. In my time at Mothership the partners never spoke directly to me a single time and this was a nearly universal experience among all staff. I do not think any of them would know my name despite my work. They also were completely out of touch with what strategists were doing and had no clue what we were sending half the time. The partners may have been talented when it comes to fundraising but they have not learned a single thing over the years on how to run a business or how to financially manage a company. Greed and mismanagement from those at the top are and will be the downfall.
