Pros

After years working at this organization throughout its many changes and take overs I can't find anything good to say about the experiences here. There are some great workers and good people within this organization but sadly they are overwhelmed by unprofessional people and unreasonable corporate expectations. MSBI

Cons

Over worked, unrecognized for any and all efforts. Constant regime changes with new or inexperienced managers who come along looking to make a name for themselves - destroying what little good is working within the departments they supervise. The job descriptions are not inclusive of the work being asked. Administrative positions are in most cases patient care based. You sign on ready to support a division and find yourself doing multiple things you were never told at the time of your interview. You will do authorizations for meds, procedures and also wind up being held responsible for multiple other people's mistakes while the people truly responsible make excuses and point fingers. Managers and supervisors are divisive and look to cause friction between coworkers. Most of these managers who could or should pitch in sit back and delegate everything onto the next guy and take credit for any and all progress made. They promote their own within this organization and others hire people with no experience and expect the employees to train new staff while being burdened with an already overwhelming work load. I've worked all areas within my department and I can honestly say this place is a drain on everyone's quality of life.

Pros

-the location of Mount Sinai is top-notch, ability to work and live in Manhattan -the school has made an effort to hire some very smart & talented people (but doesn't seem to be able to handle them when they are on the inside)

Cons

-pay is low for Manhattan -it seems getting R01 is the only metric being evaluated for how successful a professor is... many toxic professors running labs that are destroying careers of trainees -the school knows about destructive professors but nothing is done. If a lab has a 95% attrition rate in 3-4 years, and not one of those people are going on to successful positions, it means it's a problem with the professor & not the trainees. -the environment is inbred and nepotistic - only if you come from a certain lab's lineage will you be given the tools and resources to be successful -extremely bureaucratic - if you have a problem with something, good luck trying to GUESS who's job it is to help you sort through it, because you get a lot of responses "that's not my job, I don't know who you can speak to" (meanwhile they do know, but just don't want to tell you) -toxic environment - many issues in many departments
