Unfortunate First Job

Pros

Friendly coworkers, good conversations, opportunities for self improvement. Everyone I met there who worked at my level was nothing but pleasant and helpful to me, something I very much appreciated.

Cons

No trust between employees and management leads to a tense work environment. Oftentimes expectations are not communicated clearly enough if at all, especially in the period of training prior to client work. As other reviews have mentioned, the contract locks you in for one year and provides you with a Mule certification, something that'll only be useful to you if you plan to stay in the Mule space for the foreseeable future. If you leave before the year is out, you have to pay out the cost of the certification exam (not pro-rated, for some reason). That's a bad scenario for a first job, so I would suggest looking elsewhere if the contract isn't appealing to you. As mentioned by other reviews, the location is not ideal, as it is fairly isolated and allows the salary to be significantly below the going rate for most software developers just a 45 minute drive away in the DMV.

Pros

Decent employee benefits, good company for experienced developers and self learners, will get an opportunity to work on the latest and greatest technologies in the IT industry, hard working and technically proficient CEO whom you can draw inspiration from.

Cons

There is a huge disconnect between the employees and the employer. Bootcamp roadmap is not defined definitively. Extreme deficit in the benevolence of employees is gradually shown. Employees are tied up to a bootcamp contract which entitles the company to charge the employee in the case of employee leaves the company, which is a very archaic idea and lacks the thinking of a growing company. Unclear and unrealistic expectations from fresh college grads who are grossly underpaid, and a management which makes you go desk to desk to get things done while being extremely secretive about disclosing information pertaining to the employee when asked by the employee himself/herself. Business model which benefits only the company and not an employee.

Thank you for the feedback. Education reimbursement and requirements to remain a member of a company for a given period is a benefit that nearly every company in USA offers. Most companies have a 2 year payback period where as MS3 is only 1 year. MS3 invests 3 months of course work and direction into each of its junior resources providing high quality training and support. This is proven with 2 out of the 8 Mulesoft ambassadors in the world are MS3 boot camp graduates. We provide complete transparency and a physical check list of what steps need to be completed in order to graduate from the bootcamp. We can not time box this and give each resource 3 months of guided training, but as we all know not everyone learns at the same speed. This is why during our bootcamp we provide feedback, we have the students provide presentations of their progress and make course corrections where needed. This is a cyclical pattern that has been proven time and time again for the past 5 years while producing some of the best technical minds in the industry. We are very proud of our Boot Camp Training program as it is the best training program around and many companies lack the depth and details that we have put into our team members.
