Pros

MultiCare has given me some great opportunities, but I've definitely earned them. I've worked hard over the years and worked my way up. I appreciate their leadership development program, and feel that they definitely place a lot of effort into developing leaders. A big company means a lot of relationship building and movement can happen. Excellent benefits! The pay is lower than local market, but the benefits are fantastic. Healthy at Work program, wellness fairs, contests, fun runs and marathons, discounts, shuttle and ride programs, tuition reimbursement...I could keep going.

Cons

Oh boy, where to start. For as much as MultiCare has given me, it has taken so much more. Work life balance is talked about, but it's an expectation that you are available at all times, day or night. I often have to work through days off when my director needs something. I've given 110% but it hasn't always felt like it's enough. The company itself goes through major upheaval on a fairly regular basis, where our jobs are at risk, and we worry about whether we will even have a job. Reorganization, taking away positions, adding different positions, changing job descriptions, and lowering quality standards to meet the bottom line...all things that happen almost annually. Leadership could really communicate better. I hope they're working on that. Half the time it feels like no one knows what's going on. A new CEO has brought serious change. The organization is cutting a total of $300 million dollars in operating costs over the next 3 years. The first $100 million came down last month and will be coming out of next year's budget. My department could be losing about 1/3 of our staff, maybe even more. We don't know, and that's the hard part. We have no idea what's happening, when it's happening, and how it's going to happen. We just know it's bad and it's right before Christmas.

Pros

Compensation, Benefits which depends on your department

Cons

The Urgent Care Department is terrible. There have been several changes over the last few years and they are for the worst. The changes are so bad the providers sought union protection. MultiCare does not care about the working conditions of its providers and the providers are often ignored. There were poorly written contracts, inadequate staffing, no closing policies, very high patient volumes with only one provider at times, and no designated breaks (some days you can barely eat or go to the restroom in a 12+ hour shift) whatsoever for providers. Management constantly changed and became worse and more incompetent with each change. This healthcare system was one of the most toxic environments I have ever been employed with and I would not recommend this place to any provider or staff member as a place to work.

We agree that the past few years have been challenging for our Urgent Care locations. However, we strongly disagree with the statement that MultiCare "does not care about working conditions" for our providers. We have already made changes in response to provider concerns and have chosen to slow our Urgent Care growth to focus more energy on making our processes work better for our providers and our patients.

Pros

The medical field has some real positives, it is a fulfilling line of work. But multicare... honestly does nothing to enhance any of them.

Cons

Senior management is greedy. The companies listed values aren't really present at the top levels and that attitude trickles down. Terrible staff to patient ratios create unsafe environments. It just doesn't feel good to work here. Management sets you up to fail your patience, they pay a reasonable wage but exert pressure on you to do the job of 1.3 people.

MultiCare’s staff-to-patient ratios are consistent with those of other healthcare providers in our region. We are committed to being the Northwest’s “highest value” system of care. That requires us to manage our costs effectively (including staffing costs) while continuously working to deliver quality care.
