As a Level IV NICU, we take serious our commitment to providing excellent care for the state’s most vulnerable babies and their families. We will consider your feedback as we continue our ongoing improvement efforts. Rapid growth in patient census has indeed required us to hire and train many RN residents. Experienced nurses play a key role in helping these new nurses transition smoothly into the NICU. Part of this support includes role modeling our standard procedures (“bundles”) that are designed to improve patient outcomes and reduce errors.

Pros

Decent-sized company with potential of lateral transfers.

Cons

Don't you dare get any funny ideas about standing up for yourself if you work here. This company will find a way to get rid of you, in any way possible. They don't want good work ethics, great customer service skills or reliability. They only care about hiring a body to do the job for the smallest pay possible. They will keep employees who are outwardly racist, prejudiced, rude and reckless (even in the face of patient complaints) - as long as they are "in" with the manager. There is also a very high turnover rate and very low morale.

Your description of the work environment does not reflect MultiCare’s values or our desired organizational culture. As a current employee, you have access to confidential resources to report behaviors of concern or unsafe conditions. These include the online risk management systems and Employee Relations. While we do have units where turnover is higher than we would like, our 2015 turnover is trending below 10% for all employees and for Staff RNs – our largest employee population. This is significantly better than the national benchmark for other integrated healthcare systems.

Pros

Wonderful place when I started years ago. The employees really felt like family. Management committed to staff and vice versa so staff retention was high.

Cons

It is all about the bottom line these days. Leadership numbers continue to increase while the rank and file are cut. The stated goal is $100 million cost reductions per year. Achieving this is demoralizing staff and alienating physicians. That's a dangerous combination.

Healthcare providers are facing dramatic reductions in the amount we are paid for our services. Our three-year budget cutting effort is intended to proactively prepare for these cuts. While this has resulted in some job losses in the short-term it is intended to prevent larger-scale reductions in the long-term.
