Pros

The pay tends to be higher than other hospitals.

Cons

From top management, it trickles down. The primary focus is on finances and patient care suffers. Selfish/entitled behavior is the culture, there is no teamwork, no respect for peers. The staff speak poorly of each other. Schedules are changed without notification.

Fiscal responsibility and excellent patient care are not mutually exclusive. To provide excellent care, we must be good stewards of our resources, including our financial resources. Stewardship is one of our key values. So are respect, collaboration and kindness. The behaviors you mentioned are definitely not consistent with our values. Before leaving, we hope you shared your experiences with a leader or Employee Relations so they could be addressed.

Pros

For me, everything was a pro. I loved being a part of Multicare and was grateful to be a part of such an extraordinary Healthcare System. It was a truly wonderful company to work with for and strive to be a great place to work and I hope to work for them again someday...

Cons

The current CEO is outsourcing anything and everything he possibly can while continuing to expand, grow, and acquire more and more all across Washington state. He is spending a lot of money and resources while eliminating entire departments to outsourcing and negatively affecting dedicated, loyal employees in so many ways while also costing long time employees to lose basically everything they worked so hard for during their time with Multicare.

Like most large, complex organizations, MultiCare is constantly evaluating which services are best provided internally and which are best provided by an outside “expert” resource. In the vast majority of cases, we have found that our own employees provide the highest quality, most cost-effective service. Outsourcing has been very limited over the past five years. Most recently, a decision was made to outsource much of the coding function, and several years ago Linen Services was outsourced. Last year, we made the decision to bring our Information Services Help Desk function back in-house after outsourcing it several years earlier. (Contrary to your post, the entire IS department was not outsourced.)

Pros

The people that work here for the most part are great. Benefits are okay.

Cons

Multicare will stop at nothing for money. They are a white collar sweatshop. They masquerade as a not for profit and yet the CEO makes millions while they lay off housekeepers and cafeteria staff. There are sociopaths in management and don't waste your time going up the chain of command or using their hotline. They do NOTHING and your supervisor will know what you report. A nurse who was witnessed assaulting a patient still works there. While an investigation was going on the nurse was permitted to continue working. They are notorious for cover ups, Google it and see the number of lawsuits they've had.

When allegations of misconduct are received, they are investigated thoroughly and appropriate action is taken, up to and including termination. Without knowing more of the details behind the case you shared, it is impossible to provide additional comments. Regarding layoffs, we have had to make difficult choices – some involving layoffs. Although our financial results have been very good in recent years, the amount we get paid for our services is declining. When revenues exceed expenses, the resulting “margin” is reinvested in new facilities, equipment, systems and staff. A portion of this positive margin is shared with employees through our “Gainsharing” program. The new hospital in Covington and the new inpatient psychiatric unit at Auburn Medical Center are two examples of how we are investing positive margins to address critical healthcare needs in our communities.
