Best Company I Have Ever Worked For

Pros

If something is important enough it happens. That sounds small and taken for granted but the fact that organization that publicly traded is agile enough to do whats necessary is amazing. There are a couple of different schemes allowing flexibility to work form home from time to time, free breakfasts on a Friday, decent PC's. Staff are friendly and nice to each other - pleasant grown up environment. Pay is generally quite decent.

Cons

Its very data focused, decisions are data driven so if you don't have that capability or focus it might not be right for you.

Evil for H1b

Pros

After you leave Netgear, you would feel any other place are heaven.

Cons

If you are H1b, you get extremely under pay, heavy overtime work load without promotion. In Netgear, you are not suppose to have kids, not have family. You are even not supposed to be sick, nor take more than one week sick leave.

Pros

Great exposure and tight knit friendly culture. The expectation is that you will take ownership of your work and therefore managers don't micro manage. Fair pay and exciting new product line in Arlo.

Cons

No free lunches like at Yahoo or Taylor Swift appearances at company parties...wait, is that really such a bad thing?

Scary place to work

Pros

Free coffee and sodas. Espresso machine in lunch room great. B-ball hoops in parking lot helps for burning off stress. Decent pay, although bonus program keeps shrinking. Good location in center of valley, easy access to freeways, etc.

Cons

People are hired into upper management with no product development, sales or marketing experience, and no idea how to treat engineers. Management is verbally abusive to engineers and many are now seeking new jobs so headhunters are calling here first. If you want a product marketing job flirt with management and you'll be hired here - no experience necessary. Others with experience or internal candidates won't even get interviewed. The company management preaches ethics but it seems rules don't apply to them.

Pros

The pay is good. There are a lot of new technologies being explored, and a lot of new products being introduced.

Cons

You have no family life. Since Netgear is a global company, they expect you to be available to answer questions all time of the day and night.

Pros

Flexible work environment, good pay.

Cons

Ever changing targets make it difficult to focus on the task at hand. Upper management changes goals before the previously set goals were attainable.

Pros

Good pay. Good people still left at the company who are not necessarily managers.

Cons

Manager was condensing and verbally abusive and had no appreciation for difficult work that had to be done. Layoff of 80 people just this past February. Company moving in different direction and just focused on retail business.
