Pros

Most of the faculty and staff that you interact with are humble, down-to-earth, and kind individuals. There is plenty of freedom within your own department.

Cons

A general distrust of higher executives and HR admin. The Director of HR FAS for example might be a sociopath. According to testimony from colleagues and even faculty, she consistently demonstrates a callous, calculating, and inhumane behavior. She delights in her power plays and she chooses strict adherence to every regulation. More often, she will just ignore your requests for help. Her gross lack of empathy no doubt undermines much of NYU's effort to retain or reward loyal employees.

Pros

- Great opportunity to secure a graduate degree at NYU while an employee - High budgets, no layoffs - You get to live in NYC - Great benefits - Good work life balance - Lots of Additional fringe benefits (food, events, ticket discounts, etc.)

Cons

- They hire overqualified peoples for jobs at hand which are mostly answer phone calls from a hotline and just being over managed with little to no real quantifiable work assignments. Sending emails occasionally. - Administrative bloat at the top leadership that randomly wants to get involved only when it suites their individual/personal interests. - Toxic work environment and psychologically unsafe; never able to voice your true ideas in meetings. They preach openness and inclusion but it was quite the opposite. There was constant and deliberate inappropriate interactions/statements/talk from certain employees that was never addressed by leadership. - Pretty technologically backwards and slow to adopt things that will increase efficiency. They seem to like to remain antiquated and wasteful - They promote and allow the throwing of others under the bus, and most are only concerned with managing up and not supporting those underneath. It is not a collaborative environment. There are many good people but they are all fearful of speaking up and have just learned to keep their head down which unfortunately perpetuates the toxic environment. - Overall sense of fear and intimidation tactics are used and nepotism - Low raises

Pros

Wonderful president and some inspiring leaders at the top as well as some very dedicated employees. Great mission.

Cons

Little to no oversight of managers, non-existent systems, no proper annual reviews or upward feedback, lots of career employees who are ignorant of and resistant to best practices. Those who just sit tight and stay keep rising to the top despite and those with more potential tend to leave.
