Pros

If you're related to the owner/CEO's family, you'll have more job security than you could ever want or deserve. Sarcasm aside, there are some great people there . . . or at least there were. Most of the people I enjoyed working with have either left or been let go.

Cons

The principal problem with NBS is they take talented, hard-working people, and, with a mix of the aforementioned nepotism, "the customer is always right"-ness, a sexist, heteronormative, patriarchal Mormon-run culture, and truly baffling decisions from leadership, those talented and hard-working people get burnt out into discouraged and disaffected seat-fillers. Want leadership opportunities? Forget it unless you're in the inner circle of the owner/CEO's life. I have seen incredibly talented people passed over for positions only to be filled by someone from outside who just /happened/ to be the brother-in-law or the like of the owner's daughter. Pay? You don't see anything over $50,000 if you're not in leadership (see above). The management is very archaic in implying that no one should know what anybody else makes - I suspect there's some dirty secret there. Honestly, I don't have many good things to say about this company as I've watched too many people I worked with and grew to care about get burned by its nightmare culture.

Pros

NBS can be a very flexible company to work for. They take pride in being family-oriented and understand when family emergencies arise. In my direct team, I have been most fortunate in being able to truly express to my peers and direct leader how I feel about the company as a whole without fear of retaliation. Unfortunately, this is where the pros end.

Cons

I think the best way to list the cons is by creating a list and boy is there a lot. 1. Employee benefits: benefits offered here are atrocious I have seen better benefits packages offered to full-time fast food workers than at NBS. One would think that being a benefits company they would offer competitive benefits this is false. 2. Pay (Varies on department): In my department pay increases are seen as a hot commodity. I have regularly received nominations for being an excellent team player but will only receive a pat on the back and a gift card, call it complaining but employees who rise above the occasion and make strides to improve the department overall should be compensated accordingly for going above and beyond. After a couple of years of this one tends to lose the drive to being an exemplary employee. 3. Executives/CEO: It is astounding to me the utter disconnect that leadership has with the average day-to-day worker. This disconnect has led to profit loss, one exec may have a bright idea but fail in fleshing out that idea by choosing to ignore the department(s)/clients it would directly affect. I honestly don't know how NBS keeps consistent business relationships.

Pros

Working from home is nice.

Cons

If you're someone who enjoys being the face of a company that seemingly lacks support for its employees, and if you appreciate minimal training for client-facing roles, then this might be the perfect fit for you! The job postings for NBS often boast about a "wonderful working environment," but it quickly becomes apparent that their definition of wonderful is vastly different from reality. In truth, the working environment they create is a cocktail of chaos and dysfunction. One notable issue is the way they structure positions as 'exempt' salary. It seems like a deliberate attempt to turn a blind eye to the considerable time and effort employees invest in their work. If NBS were to pay hourly, perhaps there would be more attention to the overwhelming workload and the time required to rectify the inevitable mistakes that permeate each department. My time with NBS has left me with nothing but disgust and embarrassment. Daily interactions with clients and brokers are marred by the undesirable positions the company puts its employees in. The prevalence of nepotism within the company is unbelievable. It's disheartening to see individuals leading departments without the necessary qualifications, and the repercussions of this are evident in the daily operations. The company's apparent disregard for its employees is a constant source of frustration. Despite the efforts of a few good leaders, there seems to be little hope for change. It's disheartening to witness a company built on nepotism, where leadership lacks the competence required for their roles.
