NetApp is a mixed-bag environment

Pros

NetApp's founders had a very good culture in mind when they started the company, and tried very hard to keep it going. There were some very smart, competent, compassionate people there.

Cons

Like any company, NetApp had its share of incompetent, petty, mean managers who promoted their friends and punished others who might have brought different views or suggestions for improvement or change.

Pros

Very nice facility in RTP along with Gym membership etc.

Cons

Having left NetApp for its competitor, I can see how much the writing is on the walls at NetApp. Terrible middle and upper management with absolutely no commitment to customers unless cases are escalated to them and then they would haul at the TSE and manager and make them scapegoats. I have never worked in a place where "Who" the customer is based on their history of escalations is THE ONLY thing that was important to management. They totally ignored customers overseas and missed a big portion of sales overseas. I cannot believe what a filthy set of leaders they brought all from Nortel who knew nothing and cared less about people and customers. It was all about them.

Pros

There are a lot of great people at NetApp and the culture has long been a strong asset. Their benefits are fair and in Sunnyvale, they offer cool perks, such as an excellent gym, with exercise classes, regular running events (the NetApp 5K), massages, and personal trainers. You have to pay for the massages and personal trainers, but they are on-site, which is nice!

Cons

They have run out of steam. While others have innovated, NetApp has floundered. I work for a competitor now, and wish both could do well, but unfortunately that's not likely. Many people I know from NetApp are sick and tired of years of lay-offs. So many people have been let go, or have left to seek better employment elsewhere.
