Lack of diversity. Netflix's culture no longer resembles the "dream team" it built its reputation on. Performance alone is no longer enough. Managing upwards and protecting the right relationships seem to matter more than consistently delivering great work. Exceptional individual contributors become poor people managers, yet continue to progress without meaningful accountability. There are many talented, hardworking people at Netflix, but they're increasingly overshadowed by politics, self-promotion, and a culture of fear. People are often reluctant to speak openly or even associate with former colleagues because leadership can change its view of you overnight. The company is quick to move on individual contributors but appears far less willing to question ineffective leadership, even when teams experience repeated turnover. Netflix is still full of brilliant people, but the culture that once made it exceptional has, been lost. Comp is good when you start but you can spend 3-4 years without an increase and there are no bonuses. You're better off working in a lower paid, psychologically safe entertainment company for the long term. If any exist.
