Pros

I stayed as long as I had because of the people and the mission to do our best work. It was one of the most motivating environments. Sadly this changed with numerous execs changes. I am thankful I experienced New Relic for the company Lew Cirne strived to build. It was truly a remarkable organization with employees that cared about each other, therefore cared about the company’s success. This is no longer the case.

Cons

Constantly changing strategy and the culture and “core values” are no longer important to execs. The recent layoff caught those effected completely blindsided and Relics learned of their fate by receiving an invitation subject line “Transition From New Relic”. So dehumanizing, especially after “Relic Recharge Week” - truly unethical and definitely not the same company I joined.

Pros

Everyone is friendly and supportive. Diverse team. Competitive pay and benefits. Flexible work environment. The work is not very challenging. You get access to the latest and greatest tools. Good job security. Great place to work overall!

Cons

This company puts the FUN in FUNctionally incompetent. Everything is broken all of the time and no one (really) has any idea what they are doing. But on the other hand, turnover has been so high (because of, you know, the incompetence) that the organization is bending over backwards to keep employees happy. So it can be an oddly comfortable place to work! You learn to go along with things and not make a big fuss when they ask for an amp that goes to 11. But you will go mad, mad, mad if you start trying to fix things. The company says "accountability" is one of their core tenets. It couldn't be further from the truth. You could sell the organization magic beans and there would be a job description for a Magic Bean Specialist before they would admit they may have made a mistake.

Pros

The products are fantastic, and the technical challenges are engaging. The individual contributors, whether they're in engineering, support, documentation, product, etc., are amazing people.

Cons

Leadership has been making a lot of questionable decisions and keeping employees in the dark. They laid off a huge roster of talented site reliability engineers, pressured people to work nights and weekends during a pandemic, instituted a draconian "no dissent allowed" communication policy, and are actively gaslighting the employees who are still there.
