Pros

Let's just say I Love Love this company. This was my first startup and coming from larger companies ranging from 5,000 employees to as big as 60,000 employees. I was part of the Finance team and I must say the team is great! Management is bright and they are actually very supportive. Everyone is really smart and got along very well. We are all busy but people are willing to help each other out. I actually had a very general image of starts up, where everyone works a lot. That is not true at New Relic. Yes there are some days where you may put in extra hours but 80% of the time it was average and manageable. There were so many fun events at New Relic that it made work very enjoyable. From the monthly party to the sales kick off events. It was all very fun. I can't decide if the futurestack party of the Holiday party was better. Both was beyond epic. But besides from the actual events the people made it more enjoyable. At a big company I would definitely have to worry about what I say or how I act, however at New Relic I felt I can be myself without being judged. Another great thing about New Relic is the growth! Holy moly there are a lot of people that got multiple promotions. So yes if you work hard people do acknowledge your hard work. Couple sales manager got promoted, a lot of Finance people got promoted, if not all that stayed more than 1-1.5 years, sales operations got promotion too. Promotion left and right but I felt it was all well deserved as they worked hard. Sadly I'm no longer working at New Relic, mainly because I got a better offer somewhere else. But everything else about them is a plus.

Cons

Not everyone was promoted in the same amount of time, I feel this is more due to the position rather than how much had work was put in

Pros

- Hands down the best Support team I have ever worked on - Great people and challenging work - Highly engaged engineering teams - Customers think the product and support are great - Opportunities to stretch and learn if you want to - Diverse and fun team - Hard work is rewarded - Pay and benefits are fair - Office environment is great and location is convenient

Cons

- Product-first company transitioning to sales-first (culture is changing fast) - A lot of internal friction makes it difficult to meet goals

Great Company That Is Falling Apart

Pros

The best thing about New Relic is the leadership of Lew Cirne CEO and the executive team, and the fact that they push genuine values and diversity. The people here really do make it unique and a good place to be. From a product perspective, there seems to be a clear vision, and it's cool to be a part of a product that affects so many people. The quality of code here is pretty good, and it's nice to have that a priority, versus a "just make it work" mentality."

Cons

It's not what it used to be here. It was fun and had a strong startup mentality, but the enterprise mode has kicked in and when you mix that with growing pains, it's not good. The focus has clearly shifted to catering to large enterprises, while culture and employee happiness have taken a backseat to business "needs". Most middle/lower management seems incompetent, and uses fear tactics to control everything. There is no way to leave anonymous feedback for management, and every person who has voiced suggestions for improvement and change has been reprimanded, blocked from any future growth, and/or forced out of the company. Management does not listen when spoken to, and is completely disconnected from what is actually going on and how employees feel. Things are being managed through the rear view mirror, and that might look good on paper now, but this will bubble up and there will be a collapse, and at that point it will be too late. The signs are there now for those that want to see them, but mostly they are being covered up for personal gain. This could very easily be addressed if the executive team got involved and spoke directly with non-management, and if managers asked for feedback from those they actually manage. Many of these issues are most prevalent, and at a higher degree, in the Support organization. This is so evident that people talk about it who don't even work in or with Support. This is a concern because they are a key piece that integrate with our Sales and Engineering organizations, and I don't want to see this kind of behavior spread across the entire company. The behavior exhibited by managers at all levels in Support is completely against New Relic's values, and they should be held accountable.
