Best Hospital to Work at in New York!

Pros

Impeccable teamwork on mine and many other units. Cares about your career advancement. VERY generous tuition reimbursement program. Amazing employee feedback tools that they ACTUALLY look at. Great salary. Overall, the culture here is quite superb. Having come from another hospital in the Northwell Health System, I can say this health system offers its employees much more and cares much more about its RNs. 10/10 would recommend!

Cons

The particular building I work in (Weill Cornell Medical Center) is a bit outdated. The technology isn't as up-to-date as it was at my previous hospital. Considering this is New York's #1 Hospital, I expected it to be better. HOWEVER, they are building a new building for my unit across the street that will open in 2020. I am told it will be better than anything that's out there.

Worse experience in my life

The compensation is good and competitive when compared to other places.

Cons

I was treated so poorly! I worked there as a new nurse. What hurt the most is the bullying. I gathered the courage to speak out, afraid and embarrassed as I am a reserved person. When I met with the unit managers I explained the situation to them. I explained to them how it was affecting me mentally and asked for their help. I was met with words like, “why are you coming forward now”, etc, etc…these words only widen the wound. They ended the meeting with, thanks for sharing, and they will take care of it. I was not taken seriously. And the next day… I was told by the manager that, as a new grad, I was not meeting the intended expectations and they have to let me go. Just like that! I have never been more shocked in my life (I was so in shock, I stood up and just left without saying anything). Writing this right now still give me PTSD of the entire thing. I never believe this could happen, but it happens. And I experienced it. Management seemed to be able to do whatever they want. Even hurting someone if they care to do it.

This place feels like home. People always have a smile on their faces and strive to be the best in their roles here at work. Everyone is as valuable as your coworker next to you no matter the title.

Cons

Since this hospital is near the FDR drive public transportation isn't so accessible. Also traffic can be very hectic during the day.
