Toxic Work Environment

Pros

Since there is a 20 word minimum I have to expand on this and make this as long as possible as I explain the only good thing was the amount of pay.

Cons

NCHC does not care about the employees; only what the employees can produce. So much emphasis is placed on productivity, the client is no longer the focus, although they claim it is. As a mental health facility, you'd think NCHC would be a positive, nurturing place to work- however this is not the case!! You are told you are replaceable on a daily basis, your self-esteem is zapped, and your confidence stolen. Furthermore, management has it's "favorites" and acts like a highschool clique with the Ice Queen/ Grim Reeper leading pack and several clonies with the same personality following behind her.

Wow, this post hit me and tells me that our sense of urgency around improving our leadership is key for our future. I am glad we were able to the satisfaction mark on the pay you received for the work you did here at NCHC. We continue to put a priority of providing market competitive pay as a strength of our value proposition as a healthcare provider in North Central Wisconsin. As I eluded to, leadership is critical to a positive work environment and we believe people their direct supervisor first and the organization second. It is their relationship with their direct supervisor that is the most important aspect of the work environment and where our reputation is made or broken. That relationship starts the leaders at the top. We are committed to continuing to upgrade ourselves as leaders to deliver on providing the best working environment for our staff. Our commitments to employee recognition, development and appreciation are key areas of focus as we keep our main focus on the client.

Pros

Making a difference in the lives of others, most of the supervisors are wonderful. Great coworkers, we are a family. Good medical insurance with a Health reimbursement account

Cons

HR does not back up the employees Have taken away alot of benefits recently Upper management says they want to keep employees informed but are very selective in what they actually tell you leaving employees to not trust them There have been alot of jobs eliminated, and people are on edge each day not knowing if it is your last day. They seem to eliminate positions of people who use the insurance The CEO does not seem to care about the clients that loose support as programs are cut nor about employees..all just a number.

Thank you for the review, 2011 was a long time ago and certainly was a challenging time for Wisconsin and the national economy as a whole. We have more recently been afforded the opportunity to implement many enhancements and choice in our benefits package while offering market competitive pay. In support of these positive changes is a new approach from Human Resources who has worked to reinvent itself. From those efforts we have improved our internal customer satisfaction scores by almost 80% in the last year. Your review highlights communication concerns a number of times. Communication is always a challenge and we will always strive to be as transparent as possible. We are really proud of our weekly employee newsletter, News You Can Use, and our quarterly employee updates where all employees are invited to join to hear what is happening at NCHC. We will continue to look for more opportunities to improve communication and help employees feel more in the loop. We have recently launched a variety of social media platforms and communication support efforts to help with this goal.

Things have changed for the negative.

Pros

I loved my co-workers! They were all very supportive and knowledgeable. My coworkers were all willing to answer questions and support you anyway they could. I loved the type of work I did and the clients and families I worked with! I would have NEVER left my job if it wasn’t for management! NCHC had decent pay and benefits, but avoid being salary.

Cons

NCHC use to be a great place to work! Around 2015 is when the company changed for the negative! As I read through reviews I noticed one person who wrote that management was trying to “weed out” the ‘lazy’ people. It’s more like management is trying to “weed out” anyone who is a strong, confident professional, who knows their profession and the law regulating their profession so that they can have a bunch of “yes men” who do not challenge unethical and/or illegal rules they are trying to impose. Community Treatment was a terrible department to work for. When you bring concerns to management, they try to make you feel isolated and that only you are the person feeling the way you do, almost like an abusive relationship! If you point out legal and or ethical conflicts, management targets you as a trouble maker and having a “negative attitude”. Management has NO respect for your professional knowledge or level of education. NEVER be a salaried worker! They will tell you that the position is for 40 hours a week, then pile on added job assignments so that you are working 50-60 hours a week. If you say anything you get “you are expected to work as many hours necessary to complete the job you were assigned!” If you ask questions, you get reprimanded and put on performance improvement plans. Employee turnover has been horrific, people who have been working for NCHC for years are walking out the door due to management’s negative attitude, nit picking, and unreasonable expectations. I know MANY people who worked at NCHC for a long time, but took early retirement because management was so poor.
