      Pros

      Some of the people working at Ocado Technology are brilliant engineers, as well as teammates.

      Cons

      All levels of management are quite poor. Product road map planning is a complete mess and every couple of months there is a "great" new vision for the next couple of years. Engineers are overworked and constantly asked to switch focus. Salaries are not very good and the company refuses to share salary ranges and benchmark data internally. You can guess why. Career progression for a software engineer is pretty much non-existent and promotion is based on you being liked by your peers and "promoting the company values", which are just a bunch of corporate kool aid, but there is rarely an appreciation of your technical expertise.

      No pros for this company

      Cons

      Bullying culture. Lazy managers. Engineers think they are administrators and pass the buck a lot. Lack of accountability. Managers fill their calendars with nonsense to avoid work. No bonus scheme. Poor incentives. No investment to help staff complete their jobs properly.

      Trouble Ahead

      Pros

      Working at this company offers a unique atmosphere of innovation and creativity that sets it apart from others. There's a remarkable ability to pivot and adapt, fostering a dynamic work environment. The pay and benefits package is quite attractive, although I wish there was more flexibility in terms of vacation time to better balance my career and personal life, especially to visit family. Overall, it's a rewarding place to work with ample opportunities for growth and development.

      Cons

      I've unfortunately observed troubling behavior among some of colleagues, indicating a culture of misogyny within certain parts of the company. As a parent of daughters, this deeply concerns me. It appears to be more prevalent among senior individuals who have been with the company for many years. It's disheartening to see either complicity or ignorance from the executives regarding this issue. The problem starts with the marginalisation and silencing of voices, particularly those with superior technical skills, in key meetings—a coordinated effort that troubles me deeply. This systematic exclusion ultimately leads to a significant loss of talent within the company. The lack of female leaders is a direct consequence of this cultural issue that urgently needs to be addressed.
