Pros

Good clinical experience, many managers really believe in promoting good employee culture, generally most employees believe in putting the patients first. I liked the employee forums, where leadership would essentially communicate to employees what was going on on an administrative level. Coin cards were always a nice surprise and encouraging to read. Also liked getting thank you cards from management, which helped me feel noticed and appreciated.

Cons

Human Resources. Let me just say, first off, I consider myself a fair person - I fully understand that one should get paid based on experience, current position, and the market average that matches those two things. No one is expecting big $$ at a nonprofit hospital. I also understand that virtually every employee at any company on glassdoor is going to claim they are not being paid enough. That being said, the pay with LGH is genuinely atrocious, although they continually claim that it is comparable to market value. I can assure you, it is not even close. I almost made more money working part time for another company than I did working full time for LGH. If you want great clinical experience and don't mind penny pinching for a few years, LGH is great. However, if you are seasoned, have kids in college, or have a mortgage, look elsewhere.

Pros

LGH has formed a good foundation as far as standards they want to uphold for associates. LGMC spends money on the most current equipment. There are ALWAYS opportunities for overtime!

Cons

Pay is extraordinarily low across all departments. LGH is a non-profit hospital and in order to remain as such they must roll any profits back into supplies, equipment, merit increases, etc. At LGH you can guarantee your pay will stay the lowest in the area while you watch them acquire more properties & roll more dollars back into their administration. The first year employee turnover for LGMC is currently >30%. You will work more than you are hired for, in EVERY department. Degreed clinical personnel are not treated fairly as far as overtime incentives (ie: nursing receives extra benefits of $10/hr for picking up extra shifts whereas pharmacy, radiology, PT, and lab do not. All of these areas requiring 4+ year degrees. All areas that are understaffed.) The justification during one of the quarterly forums was that without nurses to cover, we have no patients in beds. However, with no lab radiology pharmacy or PT all LGH has is a glorified nursing home! I'm a huge fan of equal pay for equal work, which LGH cannot offer! Discipline is given in a very arbitrary manner. It depends on who you know, which shift you work and what color your skin is. I never received discipline in my time at LGH, but witnessed others who were picked on relentlessly & several were forced to quit or be fired. Professionalism is nearly nonexistent, which was very evident when reporting for category 1 traumas in the ED. Gawking, giggles, pointing, and judgements were passed openly among staff members across all disciplines. I was embarrassed to be a face in that trauma crowd. The lack of professionalism was appalling. Do yourself a favor & apply at Lourdes or Women's! LGH touts themselves as a burgeoning trauma center, but as a person with 6 years of trauma level 1 experience, trust me LGH is nowhere close to offering that type of facility or professional environment to you!
