Pros

Some of the best people I've ever worked with!

Cons

Unfortunately the current leadership is destroying a once great company. Employees are treated as dispensible drains on the bottom line and are constantly left feeling exhausted, frustrated, unhappy, and as de-valued as the company stock. The policies of the company are enforced on a case by case basis, and the politics played give Washington a run for it's money. If you expect management to play fair, keep promises, or do the right thing you'll be sorely disappointed. Don't get me wrong, there are some wonderful people there who are in management positions, and even some who actually deserve to be! The benefits and employee programs that were once part of the reason to work there have all been either drastically reduced or eliminated completely. "WORKLIFE" is nothing more than a word they use in their pre-meeting chants, but it holds no meaning for the company associates. There is a total lack of communication from the top down, and what is communicated is generally not believable due to the lack of trust or faith in the leaders of the company . People are working like hampsters on a wheel; constantly putting forth maximum effort and getting no where. Not that they even know where they're headed because the company has no solid direction or plan; at least not one that is consistent. Simplify? Don't even get me started! There is no shortage of bad decision making or missed opportunities, but contrary to one of the core values of the company, don't expect the leaders making those bad decisions to take "accountability". Pretty much everyone knows that Odland is the biggest problem and agrees that he and his team need to go in order for the company to stand a chance. Perhaps with new leadership, direction, some integrity, honesty and commitment, this once great company might have a chance not only to "take care of business" , but also to take care of those who make "taking care of business" possible.

Pros

The overall compensation package is good. Top performers are recognized and rewarded. Office Depot has a well known name in teh indsutry and takes the high road against its competitors.

Cons

unorganized and need to re-invest in company and employees. The compensation needs to be more balanced from year to year. Company processes are scares and behind the times. the ability to exectue in a timely manor is a major downfall. O D needs to get through the next 18 months and then look for new ideas.
