Pros

Due to the fast paced nature, working here will teach you to be a quick thinker. I became a better multitasker from a result of heavy workload periods that requires efficient time management. There are a lot of opportunities to partner with designers, graphic design, buyers, technical designers, and product development. Since it is a merchant led company, you will be exposed to the business aspect of streetwear fashion.

Cons

The HQ work environment is very toxic and clique. Unless you can climb the social latter by being "likable" to their standards, it is very difficult to shine and be promoted solely by being a hard worker. During my time at this company, I witnessed many promotions of cross-functional partners who were on a personal-level close with their superiors. Employees part of the women's buying team have a higher chance of being promoted compared to the PD and design team despite it being nearly twice the size of design. It was also often rare and prolonged for a POC (person of color) employee to be promoted. Along with the severe lack of diversity across most of the departments, POC employees are more likely to receive harsher criticism, minimal support, and experience intentional exclusion from peers which affected work efficiency. Many of the other assistants and I also experienced long work days on a regular basis due to the unfair amount of work and back to back deadlines to complete while the associates and above went home early.

Pros

discounts; 30% off all year

Cons

I am reposting and added what someone else wrote bc they were dead on: No Job Security No life outside No solid leadership No feedback on performance No recognition No coaching and developing Cult like tendencies- rather you speak the "language" then run a successful business Daily you are asked to do the impossible The people at the corporate office expect you to make gold out of coal Fake Fake Fake, everybody who stays here is fake The people who work here now are from Abercrombie and Hollister This company does not appreciate its managers or brand reps There is no training. For managers you get one week of learning to open and close the store and then you are thrown to the wolves. Not one single training session EVER again. The leaders with any skill or leadership ability or any knowledge/experience on how REAL successful business are run get pushed out of the business. This company has had double digit declines in same store sales since 2009. That is a huge decrease in sales over a 3 year time frame. Store managers, have you seen your P&L lately? They are in panic mode to fix the company and if that is at the expense of the people who work for them in terms of pay, quality of life, training, advancement, benefits, stress or whatever typically makes a company a great company to work for...they are more than willing to do so. Unrealistic workload with no additional hours allocated. Store Ops doesn't have their priorites together; email at 5pm stating that a full men floor set needs to be completed by opening next morning. RTV assignment given and then 8 hours later asked to put the RTV back in the system. Window update, no window update, window update, no window update..MAKE UP YOUR MIND! They have been known as having the "worst business model in specialty retail." If you are; attractive not very experienced have no morals in regards to people don't mind gossip and your leadership being unprofessional and full of spite, then this is the perfect job for you. If you are: A principle based leader, who acts with ethics and integrity A manager who fosters the development of your team. Can make your own assessments of your people based on skills and willingness to learn, without carrying out the motives of your leaders who do not know your people (ability to asses talent). Appreciate recognition for yourself and your team (motivating others). Enjoy having a quality of life Enjoy having a rewarding job without unnecessary steps that do not add value. Want to work somewhere where your honest opinion matters (managerial courage). Do not look like you work at Abercrombie or Hollister). Want to work for leaders who value your hard work, dedication, and drive to succeed. Enjoy working for a leader who is experienced with developing people and has a great deal of business acumen. Just plain old want to work for a company that is respectful to it's people and who has a culture you can be proud of, then you don't want to work here.

Pros

* There are lots of opportunities/projects that would look good on your resume * Upper, upper management (CEO, CFO, SVP's) are pretty impressive - smart people doing a great job * Compensation and general perks are good, especially considering company is struggling financially * Good sample sales! Decent employee discount. * Fun, laid-back working environment * Majority of coworkers are enjoyable and fun to work with. * While watching expenses, company hasn't gone into penny pinching mode (which is miserable) - there are still celebrations with food and alcohol...that is, you can still have fun at PacSun! * You can get promoted rather fast if you stick with it and have good relationships. * Decent amount of exposure to leadership

Cons

* Old-fashioned in terms of organizational strategy - jobs are loosely defined and roles and responsibilities are changed too frequently and without enough thought. * There are certain old-timers that seem to have been promoted just because of time served rather than real talent/aptitude. * There doesn't seem to be an emphasis on building management skills in the company. There is very little feedback on job performance, goal setting isn’t taken seriously and it’s very hard to get time with your manager. * Not enough delegation – too many problems caused by managers trying to own everything themselves when they do not have the information and/or time needed for good results. * Recruiting is very slow to fill open spots. * “Mean” managers are tolerated resulting in employees not expressing their ideas and opinions (there are not very many of them) * 2 weeks of vacation is not enough - especially when time off around Holidays is slim (day after Thanksgivig is not a paid holiday) * Left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing and sometimes doesn't know what the left hand is doing either.
