Pros

Mae, Tam and the rest of the Paragon team were excellent to work with. Very professional, friendly and accommodating. Clients were in diverse sectors of technology and media, which kept things interesting and stimulating.

Cons

Commuting to clients in various locations can be taxing over time. There are ways to address this (such as through long term projects) but that is really a function of client availability and needs. Collegiality was challenging to develop with other Paragon attorneys due to remote working environments.

Thanks for your very honest feedback of your Paragon experience. I agree the commute is something we grapple with, as too often the work is on the opposite side of the Bay Area from where are our attorneys live. An effective public transportation system would be the ultimate solution, but until then, we try very hard to match attorneys to projects that are in the geographic area they prefer. It doesn't always work out, in which case we do try our best to negotiate a working/onsite schedule that is mutually agreeable. We know it is hard to feel a sense of community within the secondment model where everyone is disbursed, especially now that our team has grown to one of the largest in the SF Bay Area. Several years ago we started to introduce a variety of socializing opportunities to address that, such that now every year there are 4-5 events across the Bay Area including ball games, cocktail drop-ins, MCLEs, summer family outings, etc. to allow our attorneys to get to know each other better (see pictures from these events here on our Glassdoor page!). As a result of our efforts, this year's All Hands meeting felt like a reunion of old friends, as so many of our attorneys have been with us for multiple years and have gotten to know each other through these events. We'll keep at it!

Pros

• Marquee clients • Great reputation • Exceptionally professional staff • Competitive salary when on project, particularly in comparison to its competitors

Cons

• Projects, and hence income, may be unpredictable, but this is the nature of the in-house legal project business.

Thank you for the words of encouragement and support! I'm glad to hear that our efforts to ensure compensation is competitive are continuing to prove successful. We are grateful to have an amazing roster of clients who continue to add more Paragon resources to their team and recommend us to their friends at other companies. Of course, we know the fact that we cannot guarantee continuous employment continues to be the biggest area of challenge within the secondment model in general, but we try hard to mitigate this challenge by staying in close communication with attorneys and clients to minimize gaps, and are constantly looking at ways to make the possibility of gaps less stressful for our resources.

Pros

I don't think you can beat the pay at Paragon, if you consider dollars per hour. We are very well compensated. Attorneys rarely work more than 40 hours per week, as most projects are capped at 40 per week. Many positions allow for working remotely, either full time or part time. The benefits package is strong, and has been getting stronger over the years I've been there.

Cons

It's the nature of the business that gaps in employment are possible. However, long gaps are rare for those wanting work and flexible in their requirements. Vacation is getting better, but employees are most concerned about compensation, so the money goes there instead of more vacation.
