A Rollercoaster Nightmare

Pros

The schedule is flexible to say the least, as you're able to cover several different assignments during the week. Plus, you're able to work remotely as a freelancer...in the field, from home, wherever. It's hard to beat that kind of convenience.

Cons

There is a disconnect from the people you write for, because everything is done online, and freelancers don't meet regularly with editors and management. Also, the amount of freelance content has been severely curtailed in the past year, along with pay declining and not being paid on time. My bank account took several serious hits working for Patch, because HQ didn't approve payments on time.

Pros

Patch is a quality site with good writers, solid local content and fairly active readers at least on some Patch sites.

Cons

Unsophisticated sale, tons of bureaucracy and red tape, very competitive sales category and ridiculously high sales goals--at least in our region. You can tell a business owner all day about what a great site it is but if they think advertising on shopping carts is the best then you're not getting his money.
