Upending lives with minimal notice

Pros

My coworkers and team lead are really awesome.

Cons

Upper-level management cares very little about the lives of their employees. The care that they do have is superficial and is only there to preserve their self-image. They will make promises and then don’t keep them, like saying that they have no plans on ending WFH, and then turn around and have everyone return to in-person five days a week within a month’s time. The CIO states that he has notice “minor slippage” in performance over the last 2-1/2 years of WFH, but then does not show any evidence to back it up other than a hunch. This decision does nothing to improve performance— it just takes away the time I get to spend with my family. The upper-level management is either incredibly out-of-touch, or they think that their workers are expendable.

We understand everyone processes change differently and that change can be difficult. Beginning in August 2021, we began slowly returning to the office and have seen tremendous momentum from the groups who returned to our campuses, which has helped our people be more successful. For the company we are and the goals we’ve set, this is the best decision to continue our rapid growth. Pros

The biggest pro that I can point to is the experience and exposure to new skills that I had while a part of this organization, as well as the extremely talented professionals you work alongside. The expectations and lack of training, are a giant hurdle that I had to consistently grapple with during my time at Paycom, but the skills you are introduced to are some that I have continued to build on in my career.

Cons

In my experience, leadership is Paycom’s biggest con. There are some fantastic leaders who are dedicated to growing and supporting their teams to success, but there are also a large portion of leaders who seemed to be more concerned with stroking their own ego and listening to themselves talk in meetings instead of strategizing solutions with their teams. Not to mention the horrendous onboarding process I had when I joined the team and my supervisor couldn’t even accurately explain my position and what would be expected of my role. It definitely didn’t make me feel confident in my placement on the team, and this lack of confidence in my leaders continued to grow during my time on the team and ultimately was a leading factor in deciding to leave Paycom. While at Paycom, the culture I experienced was full of fearful employees who were overworked, constantly worried about their employment, and the days were filled with uncomfortable tension when the directors were in the cubes. There was also a tremendous amount of pettiness and lack of professional acumen in regards to employee relations and communication. The lack of respect from leadership was also astounding.

Pros

The people you work with everyday are great. $1 health insurance.

Cons

They will tell you one thing and then do a 180 without warning. Bad decisions by upper management and lack of concern for those under them that are affected.
