Pros

They work around school schedules well. I always make really good friends with my coworkers. The tuition reimbursement is one of the best things, that Payless does for all of its employees.

Cons

I've worked at 3 of the Payless stores. Each different store seemed worse than the last. The store level employees are always great, but I haven't had a good manager at any of the stores. The first manager (multi store manager-worked for 2 of her stores) was always nice to your face, but she just told you what you wanted to hear. Newest manager, is one of the most rude people in existence, and he literally criticizes everything I do. I like to know I'm doing a good job. For as long as I've worked for Payless, I'm barely making above minimum wage. Corporate doesn't plan well. We will find out that they are changing a sale the day before it happens. DM's are always looking for something to be wrong. You can't have a perfect visit ever. This is a very disappointing place to work.

Pros

opportunity for advancement pay is competitive scheduling conflicts handled well really fun atmosphere able to expand personal experience and knowledge in sales, working with customers etc.

Cons

working with people who are immature and dont have a good work ethic or skill or desire due to the fact that most are very young and students. Not always the greatest feedback and review system set up for employees.

Pros

Great benefits package. 40 hours of sick, 40 hours of personal, 2 weeks of vacation. If your lucky a great manager.

Cons

Great amount of sick, personal, and vacation time, to bad you won't be able to use any. There's about six blackout dates and they usually last about a month or two. Get a bad c-sat call, no vacation for you. DM didn't like the last store visit, no vacation for you. Everything looks to good to be true, no vacation for you. In the last year all I have been told is how easy I could be replace and then when I get outstanding scores they tell me, that's all. As for managers, my first one was great. HE helped run shoes, understanding, and learned a lot about customer service. Unfortunately he's a minority and most managers don't do anything. And the number 1 rule is SELL! SELL! SELL! no matter how uncomfortable the customer is. There's been long time customers who don't come in anymore because of the atmosphere. I spent four years at this job and seen most of the customers I came to know and love leave within the past two years. And the last thing, there's no career advancement past Assistant Manager. When looking for new Managers they hire someone from another company. GB3
