My Good Experience at PerkinElmer

Pros

PerkinElmer has some great people and people who are incredibly smart. The culture is very positive and there is a good deal of freedom to do your work, without being micromanaged. The on-site gym is a great perk!

Cons

Like any organization, there are some things PerkinElmer needs to streamline to make communications and process more efficient and effective. There is nothing particularly jarring, but just growing pains that almost all companies experience.

Thank you and welcome to PKI. I agree and am impressed daily with the "incredibly smart" people here. We need to continue improving on our growing pains but am happy to see we are making progress.

Not the best choice for employment

Pros

The people that do the actual work are great. Take the job if you need it - but keep looking for better.

Cons

Little or no promotion from within. Upper management need to have 360 reviews done. But then HR only does what upper management tells them so nothing will change. Getting top-heavy hiring VP's from outside the company who want to remake PerkinElmer like the last place they worked. If that worked so well, why aren't they still there? Internal people with vast knowledge and expertise are not listened too and eventually forced out. They end up working at competitors and are much happier. Technology platforms are out of date. Constant restructuring. Yearly layoffs, usually done right before Thanksgiving. No rhyme or reason as to who goes or who stays. Morale is a joke..

An Informatics perspective

Recommend

Business Outlook

Pros

Strong product offering, top notch support and customer commitment by the field teams. Deep industry partnerships (e.g Tibco) and collaborative strategy. Many outstanding teams and people with valuable domain experience.

Cons

Outrageous turnover across critical departments. Lack of successful new product development and next generation technology. No clear informatics vision to the market. Instruments leadership owns decisions for software investments when they have little domain experience. Declining market position and revenue of legacy technologies is alarming. Divesting of several previously acquired software companies tell the story. When customers seek information on Informatics, the original Cambridgesoft website is still running as the primary source, the acquisition was 6 years ago...
