Pros

Building a product and growing an organisation around it is never easy. It has been amazing to witness Phenom’s journey and the way the company has evolved over the years through the visionary leadership of its founders. The focus, resilience, and commitment to innovation have played a key role in shaping Phenom into a strong global product organisation. I have had a positive experience working at Phenom and wanted to share a perspective that is often missed in online reviews. Like any fast-growing product company, there are challenges, high expectations, and periods where teams need to stretch to meet customer and business demands. However, there are also many strong positives that deserve recognition. One topic that is often discussed is the 9-hour work policy. In reality, this is not unique to Phenom and is fairly common across many technology and IT service companies, especially organizations operating at global scale and serving enterprise customers. What matters more is the flexibility, collaboration, learning opportunities, and the exposure employees receive while working on impactful products. At Phenom, employees get the opportunity to work with some of the world’s leading enterprises, solve complex problems, and contribute to meaningful innovation in the HR technology space. Another point that is sometimes misunderstood is workforce restructuring or layoffs. The current global market has seen many well-known technology and enterprise companies make difficult decisions to align with changing market conditions, customer priorities, and business goals. This is unfortunately part of the reality across the industry today and is not limited to one company. What is important is how organizations continue to evolve, adapt, and invest in the future. Phenom continues to focus on growth, innovation, AI-driven transformation, and delivering value to customers worldwide. Personally, I have seen talented people, strong leadership support, learning opportunities, and a culture that encourages ownership and accountability. No company is perfect, but overall, Phenom provides a strong platform for career growth, exposure to enterprise-scale challenges, and the opportunity to work with smart and passionate and visionary founders. The visionary leadership and strategic focus of our founders are instrumental in Phenom’s evolution into a truly global and impactful product organisation. Their unwavering commitment to innovation, customer value, and long-term vision continues to differentiate the company within the HR technology industry. I strongly believe Phenom is uniquely positioned to reach heights that very few organisations in this space can ever achieve.

Cons

There are no major cons from my perspective. Like any fast-growing and evolving global organization, there will always be challenges and areas that continue to improve as the company scales. Minor issues are natural in any organization that is growing rapidly, adapting to market demands, and continuously innovating. However, for employees who are focused on learning, taking ownership, and contributing to both individual and organisational growth, these challenges become opportunities to gain experience and make an impact. The pace and scale at which the company is evolving provide significant exposure, learning opportunities, and career growth for people who are willing to adapt and grow along with the organisation.

Pros

Decent food, and cafeteria with great accessibility to basic food and snacks Good working environment with ambient lighting and is spacious. Environment that motivates and drives us to work. When you sign up to join a startup, you are also signing up for the hours that you spend working. And its clearly been mentioned to us during the interview process that we are supposed to work for 9 hours. I personally experienced flexibility when an emergency came up and I had to step out of office, my manager was very understanding and permitted me to leave the premises. I personally have not faced any problem because the managers are in fact very understanding and reasonable, I say this with experience.

Cons

Food can be improved. SOPs can be adjusted and made better.

Pros

The only silver lining is that you will gain experience navigating complete chaos, dysfunctional processes, and a broken engineering culture — skills that may help you recognise red flags faster in your next job. That is genuinely all I could find after working here.

Cons

This company has no future. There are no new investments coming in, clients are actively leaving, and the business is reportedly in talks to be sold. A workforce reduction of nearly 50% is expected in the near future, yet management continues to act as though everything is normal. There are no hikes, no bonuses, and no increments. The work-life balance is non-existent. There is a mandatory 9-hour daily policy enforced strictly across five days, and if you fall even a second short, your pay gets cut. As if that were not enough, management openly and shamelessly asks employees whether they can come in six days a week. Weekends are consumed by so-called hackathons, where both Saturday and Sunday are taken away from employees under the pretense of innovation — in reality, these are just sessions to complete deprioritised and unplanned tasks crammed into a smaller timeline with no additional compensation. WFH and hybrid work options are dangled as perks but are effectively a joke in practice — do not count on them. The management culture is deeply toxic. All the managers and directors follow an outdated, old-school mindset where they measure dedication purely by hours spent suffering at a desk. They went through the same grind in their time and genuinely believe it is acceptable to impose that on the current generation as well. There is no empathy, no understanding of modern work culture, and absolutely no respect for personal time or boundaries. To make matters worse, even taking a simple leave is a battle in itself. Despite being entitled to privilege leaves, getting them approved is an uphill struggle every single time. You are made to feel guilty for even asking, questioned extensively about why you need time off. The privilege leaves you are promised exist only on paper — in practice, there is no privilege whatsoever. You are expected to be available at all times, and any attempt to use your entitled time off is treated as an inconvenience to the company. The HR team is equally disappointing and ineffective. Before joining, they make all kinds of promises that quietly disappear once you are through the door. The moment you try to leave, HR turns hostile — threatening to give bad remarks and using the 90-day notice period as a weapon to trap and punish employees who want to move on. On top of this, it appears that fake positive reviews are being submitted to mask the reality visible on platforms like this. Anyone can see through it by looking at the attrition numbers from the past few months. The engineering and operational culture is just as broken. There is no proper documentation for cross-team collaboration. Work is always rushed with no emphasis on doing things the right way — just the fast way. This leads to an endless cycle of support requests and escalations, each of which gets addressed not with a real fix but with another patch on top of an existing patch. Technical debt is completely ignored. To top it all off, the food provided in the canteen is unacceptable — it has been found to be full of bugs and is frequently undercooked. Basic hygiene standards do not appear to be met.
