Pros

Potential for growth within the company. They gave me a chance when I did not have the work experience to back up my skills. The company is always changing, brining in new ideas and are open to the suggestions you have. I don't feel like I am unimportant to the company, they make me feel like I can make a difference, not only to the customers who come through but also with the company. I have learnt a lot of life and business lessons since I have been with Flying J, they are always willing to teach you when you don't know something or don't understand a certain portion of the business.

Cons

Wage, but who doesn't want more now and then. Long hours, and filled with actual work (not that that is necessarily a con as I like to work but some could see it as a con because they do expect a lot from you). Not the best balance for work family life, difficult but not impossible Insufficient Training for Managerial Staff, from Team Leads and up to GMs

Pros

Working with the public can be an enjoyable experience until you have to take on all the responsibility placed on you for corporate's bad decisions.

Cons

This company sets you up for failure. Store hours are constantly being cut back, but the expectations remain. Through the winter months especially, employees are expected to do the same work with up to 100 less hours available. Training for store management is non existent. The store is allowed 30 hours a week for three weeks of training, but they are never given the opportunity to learn what they need to know, and then held accountable for not knowing what they weren't trained for. Store management is instructed to "make sure that no one gets any overtime." Including deducting actual hours worked to make sure the employee will receive absolutely no overtime pay.

Pros

I enjoyed the people I worked with - they made long shifts filled with rude customers at least somewhat entertaining. There are a couple of shift-leaders and managers who keep the job from being totally disastrous, so as long as you're working their shifts, it's not that bad.

Cons

Rude customers Faulty equipment - our computers crash a few times a day - we're on the hold with our help desk every few hours at least Pumps that never work properly Cheapest company I've ever worked for - they're constantly trying to squeeze every dollar possible out of their employees and clients Completely disorganized Don't expect to get paid for all the hours you work - they're constantly trying to stiff you hours here and there, read your pay stubs properly so they don't screw you over! Incompetent head office - they're completely oblivious to all the problems going Zero communication - they will put in place changes without telling you and then reprimand you for not following the "new" rules Total disrespect - you are not an employee, you are a slave; they bully you into submission and use threats to get their way
