Pros

I have worked in many organizations but none with the dedication and heart to a mission like Planet. Not only are we committed to disrupting the Satellite and Imagery sectors, we do so with the intention of improving the quality of life on Earth. As such, we attract people who are both brilliant as well as kind and compassionate. People who are incredible problem solvers because they would like to leave the world nicer than they found it. We also foster and support continued learning by sponsoring things like weekly colloquia and individual employee learning plans. We recognize and celebrate creativity and hard work and we provide unlimited time off so people can have balance. And we are not left in the dark - our CEO and Executive team are committed to transparency.

Cons

To date, we have generally followed a collaborative decision making model. As we have grown, this has proven to be more logistically difficult. While we are committed to ensure all voices are heard, we are learning to trust our peers as representative voices so in appropriate cases, we can come to decision more quickly.

Pros

Working at Planet Labs will give you the chance to create the future of an industry as well as making positive contributions to the world! The motivating mission and philosophy behind this company was enough for me but the added plus has turned out to be the people and the culture they create. If you enjoy working hard and with a purpose, while having a good time doing it then this is the right place for you. I am a recent hire ( a few weeks ) and already feel like a part of the family. I have the opportunity to interact with the the smartest people in engineering, aerospace, finance, open data, etc. and find it a dream to work hard and contribute to the goals of this company. Although the organization structure is technically hierarchical for various reasons you will feel as if the organization is flat and you can approach anyone, including executives for anything. If you want to make a difference, have fun doing it and make some friends this is the place for you!

Cons

I wish I would've landed this job earlier :)

Pros

Planet Labs has a very exciting mission, that if well executed could have a seriously major positive impact on the world. The technology is advanced, R&D opportunities abound, and the people are universally driven by the mission, very talented, and genuinely nice.

Cons

Working at Planet can be stressful - the stakes are very high when launching satellites that by nature cannot be fixed once they've been launched. I've found myself second guessing choices, well after the satellites have been shipped. Planet is growing quite rapidly, so it takes a good bit of flexibility to work there. It can also be difficult working in a situation when it seems like there are 100s of very important things to be done, and the work needs to be prioritized.
