Love it Here, Highly Recommend !
Pros
The mission and work here are amazing. Planet Labs builds small satellites and sends them to space! Planet is working to image the whole Earth, once a day and there's a lot of interesting applications for humanitarianism, mapping, and business. It feels great to be part of something so awesome and challenging. The combo of startup and space is super interesting. Our launch parties are literally for launches in to space! The people are super amazing. They're inventive, brilliant, fun, and friends. Everyone cares about one another, the different and diverse teams aren't clique-y. I'm on the Ops team and I still hang out a ton with engineers, product, and more teams--both during work and in my free time, because I want to. Planet Labs has the feeling of a community. I always feel like the company is trying to take care of me. There's mandatory 2 consecutive week vacation once a year, and the company does awesome things like spending extra time, effort, and money to be able to hire international talent or making sure your benefits are perfect. There are 2 company retreats a year and a lot of ways to give feedback if you're concerned or want to learn more about something. There's an emphasis on enjoying your work and working hard, but making sure you don't burn out.
Cons
Startups come with a lot of challenges -- you have to figure out how to do certain things on your own. There's sometimes ambiguity about job descriptions and mentorship could use improvement. Growing fast can also be challenging -- you have to work to make sure the teams stay integrated. The office is pretty crowded right now -- there's been really fast growth -- but they are getting serious about new office space.
