Good work, poor pay

Pros

I started working at Pluralsight on a product that I'd imagine people would fight over at other companies. The work has been rewarding and I learn from amazing people. The opportunities to learn and share all over the place. Paid confidences, learning hours, college course refunds, etc. The unlimited PTO is great. There is no toxic culture in the Boston office which is amazing.

Cons

When I joined Pluralsight I honestly thought I might retire here. However the more recruiter emails I receive with pay ranges $20-$60k greater than what I'm making now - I'm reconsidering. I actually had two interviews in the past two weeks. There were promises of raises at the 6 month Mark in the engineering org and that evaporated after the reorganization. When I brought a desire to move to the next engineering level, my boss made it sound like it wouldn't be worth it so I gave up. The stock purchase program is factored into your total package. If you can't afford to buy into it then you're out of luck. The stock just dropped a ton and I lost about $15k in potential earnings per year overnight.

Hey there - Appreciate the review and candor, as well as your passion for Pluralsight. We are communicating more on levels, promotions and career ladders very soon and I believe it will bring the clarity and the transparency you’ve been looking for. We pay fairly in line with the market and there will always be other companies that will pay more but I encourage you to look at the total picture -- your total rewards including benefits, annual equity refresh grants, the mission, and the company and team culture. And thanks for the feedback; I’d love for you, your leader, our Total Rewards team and/or me to work through with your concerns with you to support you in your choice. - Anita

"Mean Girls" culture

Pros

Beautiful space, great benefits.

Cons

When I say "Mean Girls" culture I mean exactly that. Cliques on cliques on cliques. They don't give you a clear path to success, no feedback, and they expect you to a robot. Yes, this company looks appealing, but I would definitely proceed with caution.

Pros

Great dev practices, focus on the customer, Nice offices

Cons

The engineers seem to like to talk about theory and development instead of focusing on delivering quality software. Many things that are talked about are not practiced. Company values are to "Seek intention" but many cliques exist and will railroad people if they don't agree with them. Very much a millennial company, more stock is put into the way individuals "feel" over data.
