Great for sales types, not so great for technical types.

Pros

PCG is highly focused on the ever-changing needs of their many institutional customers and on the sales efforts involved in acquiring new customers. Those whose career tracks lean toward sales and project management have a lot of opportunities here.

Cons

Technical staff are answerable directly to sales staff and cannot advance far within the organization without switching to a sales focus. This limits the depth of expertise the organization can accumulate.

Little Direction, Payoff for the few

Pros

They'll hire you if you're willing to work for peanuts. It's a good place to get some experience to get you another job.

Cons

If you don't have a good relationship with your manager you won't get any opportunities. No opportunities, no money, advancement etc. Managers only care how they can boost thier bonuses. Training is comprised of working with another BA who's been there a few months longer than you.

Pros

PCG teaches you a lot-- they throw you into new situations, let you struggle a bit, and then provide you with enough support so that you can learn independently and grow professionally. The company is constantly growing, and the contracts it gets means that you can have a real, immediate effect on the public sector. I have opportunities here that I would have to wait years for at a similar company as well as a manager that is dedicated to my professional growth and development.

Cons

In some practice areas, burnout is rampant. Employees work too much for too long and don't get paid to compensate. Management is slow to hire staff unless it's absolutely crucial-- in their minds, if they can get someone who's already there to squeeze in another assignment, it's worth not hiring someone else, even if that decision means burning out the staff they already have.
