Pros
National Products pays reasonably well. You'll always have something to do, there's very little downtime. They're a very American company. They make all their own products here, with very little outsourcing. It's a point of pride for the company, and is worthy of praise.
Cons
The pay is pretty good, but the benefits are lacking. The cheapest options are always chosen. There is no retirement plan available. Bring your own office supplies. If you want post-its, you have to email the CFO. For salaried employees, the expectation is to be on the clock, in the office for 45 hours a week, minimum. The CEO views "work" as sitting silently at your computer, heads down, all day, every day. Deviations from this are viewed as wasting time. Including meetings, coworker conversations or collaborations, and lunch. Unless the CEO wants to talk at everyone. Then you'll stand in a common area for 3 hours while he talks about whatever is on his mind. Usually related to the latest rumors of whoever's the most unhappy. It goes downhill from there, and often ends in an awkward question and answer session. He may come in the next day to apologize for the way he talked. He might cry. He might be angry. He will voice a demand for change, but very little will change because change is not encouraged at NPI. Working late into the evening and on weekends is mandatory if you want to be taken seriously. However, even if taken seriously, your input is neither needed, nor requested. Everyone does what the CEO wants, no questions allowed. If he says go left, not going left is viewed as being difficult to work with, and after a while of being difficult you'll likely be let go. If you do go left, and left doesn't work out for the company, it will be viewed as your fault. Employees are not trusted to think or act for themselves. Nothing is done without explicit approval from the CEO. Sometimes, approval today is revoked tomorrow, and you'll have to start over. Everything is a high-priority request, and needs to be done ASAP. If it doesn't show immediate positive results, it will be deemed a failure. Whatever your job description is, you likely won't actually be doing that. You'll be doing whatever needs to be done, because they can't hire or keep the employees they need to do the jobs they need done. Morale is always low. Tension is always high. Training is non-existent. Documentation is right there next to the training. Asking for help is usually answered, but prefixed with a heavy sigh.
