Mostly hype- reputation will eventually catch up.

Pros

Pro deals. Relaxed dress policy. This year REI will provide bonuses although the incentive plan structure technically should not allow it.

Cons

Micromanagement is the norm from upper management. Employee satisfaction is paid lip-service only. This year the overall satisfaction scores were in the high 60% range. Chaotic swings in the retail business result in knee jerk reactions by management. High turnover in key positions frequently leave everyone scrambling. Work life balance is truly not a high priority to REI, regardless of what the Forbes list says.

Pros

- Save 30% on gear that you don’t need - First-hand experience in finding 5 good people to handle the stress of terrible customers and co-workers

Cons

- Lacks concern of employee mental health - Schedules based on membership sales - Fails to equally pay employees with the same job title and expectations - Undervalues Time spent with company - impossible to claim benefits - Mgt will not provide the needed help; that’s on the front of house crew
