Pros

Some very bright people work here however they are too fixated on this. Head office has a very small town feel. A very good bonus pool

Cons

Have bought into the idea that they are very bright. Poor corporate communications. Ideas from outside the core are generally ignored.

Pros

When people ask me where I work and what kind of company it is - I always describe RLI as a company that is the pinnacle of what you hope to reach at some point in your career. I always feel very humbled and very fortunate to have the opportunity to be a part of such a wonderful and impressive organization, and work among people who are inclusive, innovative, personable and just all around good hearted people. I always say that for those of us who have worked for other companies, we have enough experience to know that it doesn't get much better than RLI, and for those of us who are lucky enough to have RLI be the very first introduction into the workforce, then again I reiterate and emphasize how lucky those employees are. At RLI you'll find purpose and value, work ethic unmatched by most elsewhere, appreciation for your efforts and commitment to the collective goals we have, and a no person's left behind kind of mentality. There truly aren't enough words to say how wonderful RLI is - we're best known for being different, and I'd say that's the most encompassing word I can use, because we break all other molds.

Cons

I truthfully don't have any specific cons. Now look, are there are always going to be things that you don't love or that bug you day to day, of course there are, but when we talk about RLI holistically I have few complaints. And for the complaints that people do have, we are an organization that does allow opportunities for those cons to be voiced, and the company makes an effort to make changes where possible. In general, RLI at it's core is a company that cares about it's employees and their well being - we're employee owned for a reason, we understand that happy employees make for a valuable business. So before you roll your eyes and say it sounds to good to be true - take those words into consideration.

Pros

Hard work & passion is recognized all the way to the top. The culture is the absolute best. There's Work/Life flexibility, such as ability to work remotely while still having co-worker comradery & not feeling left alone on an island. CEO & top brass know their people not just their names. It is a great place to work while the pay & benefits are best in industry. Bonuses are clearly outlined & 100% objective based. Company contributes automatically to your 401(k) even if you don't & the ESOP is amazing. This is just on an average year. When the company has an outstanding year, all of the employee/owners share in the wealth. Don't need to feel that you need to manage people to get promoted. They reward talent for talent. They value Underwriters & all positions that support Underwriting. They view us as talented resources not just as replaceable busy workers. The company listens to those on the front lines & gives support when needed. Managment is willing to pivot & not continue to repeat the same mistakes. Not to sound like a broken record, but the retirement package is amazing!!!! This is the place you come to & retire at.

Cons

Not a place you can coast. They don't over work you, but if you just want to put in bare minimum effort you won't enjoy the spoils... as much. Flat organization, so not a lot of multiple levels of AVPs/VPs, but doesn't mean you can't grow in your career, responsibilities, & compensation. You won't get a tone of different titles during your career, but you'll still get the pay & benefits.
