Pros

- Access to all levels of leadership. -free coffee and drinks -Great workspace with a lot of options of meeting and work spaces. -Young and fun environment. Lots of millenials who run the place.

Cons

- lack of Diversity and inclusion conversations. It is frowned upon since this is more of which school you went to and hiring people who look a certain way. - No merit to how promotions and bonuses are awarded. They give promotions to whoever they want and at accelerated rates. So many senior managers and directors who do not even have enough people to be managing. - lack of transparency in communication and how decisions are Made. - moral is horrible right now. - Things have drastically changed in the last two years. Horrible communication and change management -it will always be a profitable business and will always be hiring. -Good for learning retail and on your resume then you can leave - Need better leaders especially those in HR are a joke, not sure what they do. Zero credibility and trust.

Pros

Free coffee and covered parking

Cons

It seems like 10% of the employees have to work their butts off 40 hours a week, while the remainder of the staff stands next to your desk gossiping. I never get work breaks due to the amount of things I have to due, yet constantly have to listen to others have hour long conversations about their favorite yogurt. There are entire departments there that seem to have 3x the amount of employees needed. There are departments there that play with nerf darts all day while others are about to lose their mind from being over-worked. Open break rooms placed directly next to office space, so you get to listen to "basic" girls yell about what they did the night before and giggle for 45 minutes New positions made up weekly so someones buddy can be promoted. I don't understand how the entire company isn't management with 10 people being promoted every week. I've had six new bosses in a year. So that's been fun getting used to. Direct boss spends 50% of each day on phone with credit agencies, his wife, or making other personal calls. When he's worn out from doing that it's time for a smoke break!!! He always comes in after me and leaves before me as well. Worst place I ever worked. They have culture/values all over the walls yet don't practice any of it. Fake people.

TOTAL LACK OF LEADERSHIP

Pros

I get to watch movies on my laptop, i get to take 2 hour lunch breaks, if I stay long enough I can come to work for 3 hours and disappear and no one will even know or care.

Cons

Racetrac lacks leadership, since I'm in IT, I can only speak about IT leadership. But I think its throughout the company. Since no one really has true leadership experience they can't really teach anyone to be a good leader. Certain executive directors try to display leadership by talking loud and insulting people. While others don't say a thing, meaning they provide no vision or direction. The quarterly department meetings are a joke. Nothing is said about the direction of the company or the department. They came up with some very high level goals which will never get accomplished and a ridiculous vision statement, sounds like a 5 year old created them. Looking back on this company which has been in business for over 30 years, it's still being ran as a startup. I'm pretty sure the others are more advanced than this place. I seen a previous post that said Racetrac has been in business more years than most of its competitors. But its revenue and store count are the lowest of all of them, which is true. We have no CEO. The owner of the company which is 80+ years came out of retirement to run the company and I'm not sure he's the best person to be calling the shots, elevator not going to the top floor. Also we have no CFO. Leads me to believe no one is running the company. We sell gas so, it pretty much will profit until the gas runs out or Tesla takes over the world. Which I'm hoping for. In addition to all of that, we just laid off a lot of people. Not sure why, but it makes for a hostile environment. Whats really interesting about that is some of the jobs that were said to be because of reduction of force are now on the career page. Trust no one especially the lack of leadership executive directors. I'm looking for the next opportunity out of here. There's no communication about anything. One more thing to add, theirs a boxer suing the company for the use of the phrase Left Hook the companies icon drink, $256 million. If he even gets half of that. We are screwed. Everybody will be looking for jobs. Well, you have been informed. If you are looking for a job, take this company of your list. Coming here only spells doom for your career. I'm trying to figure out ways I can exclude it from my resume.
