Pros

- ability to move between clients if your manager is on your side - sabbatical after 5 years

Cons

When I say complete lack of WLB, I mean it, weekend work was continuous. There were also no clear working hours with teams expecting you to be online minimum from 8-7/8 (this is not considered crazy at all). I feel badly for my more junior staff members who have it worse. Also, the amount of admin work needed within this agency is absolutely insane. Another side note is that billability is not just a focus, it is the sole way leadership communicates with staff — a regular email reminding the company to remain billable (and increase at that). At this point I left a little bit ago (under 6 months) but have heard from colleagues it has only gotten worse. If you’re considering this agency, please carefully weigh pros and cons and try to find people who worked at RC and left to ensure you have the full picture. I’ve seen too many people crash and burn there!

Pros

Compensation is competitive. Leadership and HR have implemented a lot of new processes to improve onboarding, burnout, etc. but don’t always practice what they preach. There are some incredibly talented and creative people at this company and, if you’re lucky enough to be put on a team with a good leader, you’ll learn and grow so much. However, that isn’t the case in all departments.

Cons

Deeply rooted nepotism. If you haven’t been at the company for 7+ years and aren’t considered part of the original “cool kids club” you won’t get a huge raise/promotion every 6 months like those who have. Aside from compensation, those who are clear favorites are given better opportunities. They’re pulled in on certain meetings, given better projects, etc. It’s unfair and newer employees who work harder than anyone don’t stand a chance. Lack of work life balance and our success being based on “how billable we are.” One time a team member was 135% billable and our lead used them as a great example and someone to look up to. Yeah - something is wrong there. Inflated titles “Fear promoting” and only giving someone the title/compensation they deserve when the company is worried they may leave. No real sense of process or structure All talk, no action when it comes to leadership

Real Chemistry Response

Thank you for your comments. We are working hard to take care of our people and better manage the balance between work and life. It’s encouraging to hear the new processes are a step in the right direction, and appreciate the honest feedback that more can be done to ensure these measures are fully adopted. We are currently reviewing billability and reassessing targets to ensure appropriate and manageable expectations. In addition to these reviews, our leadership team looks at exit survey data on a monthly basis to ensure we are listening to our people and discussing ways to address concerns. As for promotion, our HR team regularly partners with leaders to focus on performance and remove unconscious bias, to ensure we encourage success for all employees. --Brian Gibbons, Head of People
