Pros

The co-workers are great. Campus is easy to access and amenities onsite are good as well. Located at US 75 and Campbell in Richardson, TX.

Cons

Limited mobility within the company. A disconnect between performance and financial reward. Commission structure is less than ideal, especially with long cycle times. Divisions are definitely kept separate and departments are siloed to the detriment of the company and customer experience.

Pros

Great people, family atmosphere, decent benefits, fun activities, casual dress code, facility in Richardson is nice with a food court and Starbucks, loved my manager and co-workers, very LBGT friendly

Cons

Steve Winn is buying a lot of smaller companies. Usually it does not make much difference, but when one of the companies merged with my department, that company took over and appeared to replace career employees with their own. I was unceremoniously terminated after a decade. It did not go unnoticed that those others who were let go was people of color. The particular department I worked is highly fraternal and “good ole boy”. Women and people of color are highly under appreciated in both salary and work quality. Employee surveys use the Uber method: a good review, your bosses will get a big bonus.

Thank you or your post and I appreciate your Pro comments. I would like to deep dive your Cons, especially your own termination. There has to be more here to understand as you elude to race and female "issues" I can assure you that engagement scores are a part of the manager review, but absolutely have nothing to do with the bonus process as that is tied directly to financial performance and Net Promoter Scores. Please call me confidentially and lets dive into your own situation. I want to be sure, I understand what you are saying here and I want to be sure it was handled appropriately. If there are circumstances or facts that were not taken into account, we will rectify. 972-820-4016. Sincerely, Kurt Twining

Slowly Getting Better

Pros

Over the past couple years the company has changed for the better. The Richardson office offers skills classes that help with our actual jobs and would cost us money on our own. We recently signed up for a Corporate Challenge, which brought together different parts of the business and really allowed us to get to know coworkers we wouldn’t normally interact with. The gym and cafeteria at our location is great as well. Overall the culture seems to be improving and getting to know my coworkers has been a huge morale booster.

Cons

The company doesn’t think/act like a growing technology company. There is a very “old school” mentality that is very damaging to the actual workers, which causes heavy turnover. There is a rumor of not allowing remote employees anymore. The most successful technology companies have employees scattered all over the world. You don’t have to be face to face to be productive. Studies have shown remote employees are more productive. We are also forced to participate in surveys that ask us about our manager. We’ve completed this survey for over 3 years I believe and literally nothing has changed. The questions are redundant and no one answers truthfully. One reason is that we don’t trust that the survey is truly anonymous. Second reason is that it’s way too long and we are way too busy. Leadership is not transparent enough for us to trust answering truthfully. Our benefits are VERY limited. We only offer one medical option and it’s not really a benefit for those of us that don’t meet our deductible. 401(k) vesting and match are not great by any means. Pay isn’t horrible, but it’s also not great. Management doesn’t like to pay people for what the actually bring to the table, but instead bring them in low and make it impossible to reach reasonable pay. This also causes much turnover.

Thank you for your post. We appreciate and agree with your observations that we are trying very hard to build a great work environment. The Corporate Challenge was for a great cause and it was fun as well. As I got into your cons there were a couple of things that jumped out at me. We offer the engagement survey every year, because we want to know and understand how our employees are feeling about RealPage. Participation was 83% across the globe last year. Its unfortunate that your function appears to have not maximized the value of the survey. You should absolutely demand what other departments are doing is looking for ways to be better. Our benefits are really much better than you are eluding to. Yes we offer only one medical plan to new hires. We actually have several medical plans in the US. HMOs on the west coast, HDHC and we left a PPO plan in place and grandfathered those into it who wanted it to remain. Our plan design pays 100% after you meet your deductible. Its sounds like you have been healthy enough not to need that coverage. It should also be pointed out we keep our premiums lower than industry average so there is an offset to the plan. On to your advice, I agree with you regarding getting out and talking to the teams. We are making a conscious effort to do more of that. We spend a lot of time trying to figure out ways to make the environment better each day for everyone. Thank you for your comprehensive and balanced feedback. Sincerely, Kurt Twining
