Pros

Relias has a good culture and good middle leadership. The environment in Sales is flexible as long as you're meeting your numbers. This is a great place to start building your Sales skills and become familiar with working in a SaaS environment.

Cons

Relias openly acknowledges that they under-pay compared to the market standard. They have have pretty much always dismissed this and justified it by talking about how great their benefits package is (unlimited PTO, great healthcare, etc). While they DO offer a good benefits package, other companies have definitely caught up in this respect, but also pay significantly better for base salary and commission structure. Sales Leadership continues to make changes to the commission structure each year that result in reps making less and less per dollar sold than the year prior. Quotas for Mid-Market and Enterprise roles are extremely unattainable. Out of the entire MM and Ent new business reps, there are less than five currently meeting Y2D quota. The base salary, compared to SMB, barely increases, but quota doubles by moving to MM. This segment of the business needs a SERIOUS re-evaluation, as the current situation for those reps is unsustainable. Additionally, the Executive Leadership team has recently put in place a return to office policy that requires everyone who lives within 50 miles of the office to be in the office at least 50% of the time. More importantly, IF you do live remotely, they have communicated to the Management team that those living and working remotely will no longer be considered "promotable". Meaning, you can start your career here, but you will never have a real future.

Thank you for sharing your feedback and concerns about sales compensation and commission structure at Relias. We value the insights and perspectives of our sales employees, and your input helps us continually improve our policies and practices as we look to stay aligned with market trends. Over the last several years, Relias has made tremendous progress towards ensuring that our sales positions have target compensation packages that are comparable to similar roles with similar quotas at similar organizations via significant benchmarking with outside consultants. Relias has increased total cash compensation for SMB and Midmarket sales roles by an average of 18% over the last 3 years. Relias also offers a very competitive benefits package, and we view all aspects of the employee experience as part of the total package the company has to offer. Regarding our commission structure, we aim to create a fair and motivating structure that aligns with our business goals as they evolve. However, we recognize that these changes may not always yield the desired results for each individual sales representative. We will assess and refine our commission structure ongoing to ensure it is both competitive and rewarding for our high-performing sales professionals. Sales quotas consider a multitude of factors including territory size and composition, potential greenfield opportunities, etc. It's essential that our quotas are achievable and motivating for our sales reps, but that they are also structured to help the company achieve the desired business goals. While divisional sales targets have increased at a rate similar to compensation increases over the last three years, we have also continued to maintain the same number of sales reps attaining quota by careful application of quota increases. Lastly, 50% of our sales organization is at 80% or greater attainment to year-to-date quota, with expectations for that percentage to increase to remain at the best practice level of 80% achieving full year quota by year end. In addition, for the last five years we have had at least 35% of our sales organization achieving President’s Club, which requires achieving greater than 120% of quota.
