Decent Entry Level Graphics Position besides Management System
Pros
• Predictable work days - typically every day is spent designing POS orders for bars, restaurants, liquor stores, etc. and communicating with sales reps. • Clock-Out Time - If you enjoy early mornings, it is nice to be done at 2:30 every day • Helps you improve your speed of designing since they value quantity over quality (getting 40+ projects done daily). However, if your goal is to learn more about design this is not that type of job unless you work on internal projects with the Senior Graphic Designer. • Learn a lot about beer (craft, imports and domestic brands). Exposure to a lot of suppliers/beer companies and get free beer cases on holidays.
Cons
• Early starting time - must be in the office at 6am. During busy times of the year they ask us to come in to the office at 5am. No reason behind the strict early starting times. • Demanding work days - Told to complete at least 40 design projects a day. This hardly leaves time for 2 bathroom breaks in a day since we work so hard to meet the desired goals. Focus only on quantity not quality of our design work. It is more of a print factory rather than a graphic design position. • Disrespectful/toxic feeling work environment - There is no sense of open communication in this position. It seems that the manager prefers hiring people right out of College as it gives him more control to not treat us as equals. This can become pretty toxic feeling when you are accused of doing something wrong with no reason provided behind it, yet are unable to speak up for yourself due to the work environment. • Every week the entire team gets an email report of how many jobs each person on the team completed as well as the amount of errors each person received, coming to their total "KPI" percentage for that week. It is very stressful having your weekly totals and percentages shown to the entire team, and is not necessary. • Little interaction with the rest of your team - days are spent working really hard to get as many projects done as you can and then going home. It is rare to have a day where you are able to talk to the other designers. • There is no option to work from home, although our work can be accomplished and tracked from home. If we were unable to come into work (ex: during strict Covid times) you had to use a sick day or not get paid. Little trust or respect shown to employees.
