Pros

- free lunch, playstation(wont get time to play), gko travel and accomodation(pretty luxurious) - one part of the engineering still seems to be doing well with a good environment

Cons

- very toxic management - cannot question back and have to accept decisions, solutions, architecture handed down from top level - have to take full blame for failure even though it happened because of the handed down decision - awful work life balance and then no reward or recognition - highly driven by fear and politics, management seems to be vengeful and vindictive - the platform is not self serve so there is not that many interesting problems of scale - seen too many smart people having the worst time even though they gave their all and eventually leaving - surveys are not anonymous and your response will have repercussions - not a very inclusive environment - have to constantly sell yourself and step over others or else you will get crushed

Pros

It's not all bad and a few of the food things are below. The people make the place but also: Salary Stock options Perks Lunches Travel Interesting technical problems Rokt is very material focused and seems to reward well materially. The more human rewards (like trust and autonomy) are less important

Cons

Rokt is the kind of place that calls itself a "high performance workplace". Anyone who's been at this a while knows that is code for high pressure, overworking, and sacrificing your work life balance to get deliverables out the door. This isn't inherently bad, after all, this is a start up and Rokt offers you a share in their success so there is a strong incentive to push the envelope. The issue is that Rokt does not like to give back in a non material way. Decisions made above us are iron clad, non-negotiable and the effort required by individuals to influence change is enormous, yet seldom effective. You'll see technical decisions made from often a single person at the top against the guidance of the engineers. You'll also see company policy decisions where protest is ignored. As individuals, we have limited creative freedom, minimal autonomy and are responsible for the subsequent platform instability. Progress is generally slow due to high levels of micromanagement, ever changing priorities, and a constant stream of meetings. We definitely don't have the agility or pace of a startup. If you're looking for a place where you get a great work life balance, have stimulating technical discussions with peers, innovate, enjoy remote working options and a reliable platform - you should keep looking. Rokt is more like a silicon valley start up. You get here, do your time, get your shares and leave. Probably better off being here than missing out but damn, as someone who loves software engineering, I've never had a job make it feel so unenjoyable.

We appreciate you taking the time to give us your feedback on working at Rokt. We completely agree, our team is our greatest asset and while you list our solid pros, we are naturally disheartened to hear your concerns via our cons. There is a lot to unpack and we would really really value an in person confidential conversation if you are comfortable in having one, please reach out to the People team or Sarah Wilson, our CPO, directly.

Sad company

Pros

- Decent benefits - Decent tech stack, a few things to learn - Generally nice people

Cons

- Hypocrisy: management keeps yapping about culture and how its the cornerstone of the company. They also run quarterly surveys just to ignore the results, do absolutely nothing about it while coming up with lame excuses to genuine feedback. Instead, they point fingers at other companies without ever acknowledging the Rokt's culture is toxic and outright depressing. - Nobody is ever safe: entire teams get axed and disbanded over night just because the management wants to, A bunch of people are leaving / being made redundant and more interviewing. - Bad work-life balance: frequent on-call issues (not paid on-call lol), you either grab and deliver big pieces or you might end up PICed/PIPed because your impact is low. - IPO has been "next year" for the last 4-5 years: constant lies about when it's gonna happen "if it ever happens". I wouldn't buy that stuff if a recruiter tries to sell you on this, go get real cash. On a side note, when reading a review, pay attention to the number of upvotes. This is how you know its geniune and actually reflects how people feel.
