Pros

Nice location, but nothing else to add.

Cons

Nepotism and favoritism are rampant in the whole city. Winks and good ol' boy handshakes guarantee you a job - that you don't meet the definition for.

Good stable job

Pros

Very stable and relatively easy job. Great benefits. Good working conditions depending upon your department. Lots of room for growth and future career opportunity. The city is, and has been, growing exponentially for years - and I don't doubt that it will continue to do so.

Cons

As the city grows, the efficiency of labor and work environment worsens. It grows steadily more hierarchical and subject matter experts are not respected. Data that shows poor performance or problems are ignored or skewed to "make the department/city look good". Problems aren't viewed as opportunities for improvement, which is highly disappointing. Culture and goals seem to be simply buzz words that sound good, but aren't followed.

Totally disfunctional

Pros

Flex schedule, close to downtown. Pension is nice if you can stay long enough.

Cons

Never have I seen a more divided atmosphere than in this shop. The staff are very friendly and will do anything for you, but the management has no tolerance for anyone questioning anything they do. Disagreeing with anything the management says WILL get you fired or reprimanded. Long hours, frequently changing priorities and an incredible turnover of staff and the workload just keeps piling up but the deadlines never change. The CIO is easily the most micro manager I have ever encountered in any job and is always chasing the latest fad and goes around saying buzzwords even if they don't apply to the situation. The upper management has no feelings toward their staff at all and recently fired a new employee without even giving him a reason why, pretty much because they could. Expect to be on 24 hour notice anytime to fight the latest bug. Be prepared to have to document everything you do, even though no one looks at it after you've done. Process is king here, results an afterthought.
